I did not notice this, good catch. Also its weird Subaru didnt invent a gun for his personal use now that I think about it. It wouldnt help with huge beasts but would still be usefull. Could also use his knowledge of canons or ballistic missles and teach beatrice enough to make some spells that use them. Kind of simillar to what Rudy does in Mushoku Tensei.

It's hard to make one even if he nail the gunpowder, the mechanic behind every gun with his world being magic base tech instead of engineering it would be quite hard. Also Shadow base magic has no physical weight behind them so he couldn't even break a wall with Minya so it couldn't use as anti meterial, however if thing are mana base like people or spirit it's almost lethal.

I genuinely cannot express how much I love these added bits of characterization for Emilia. S1’s biggest issue for me was honestly not giving Emilia enough characterization and depth for me to really be in Subaru’s headspace when trying desperately to save her. She was kind of stuck as just “a nice, pretty girl who saved him when he first came to this world” and let that be the explanation for Subaru’s desperate love for her. Not saying it’s completely unrealistic for a girl to fall hard for probably the first girl in his life to be kind to him, but I really got invested in the ship in S2 and S3 where they show more of naive, kinda dumb, bit jealous aspect of her, and just let her and Subaru kinda be dorks together. That’s the kinda stuff that’s compelling.

If the starry sky is identical or almost identical to that of Earth, that would mean at least they're in the Milky Way, and that world could be a parallel Earth. Because Season 3 was action packed with less deaths, horrors and actual mysteries to unfold we were used to I think. Also I feel like they beat Regulus way too easily (even Subaru roasting him in Season 4 lol) In season 4 we already got "mindblowing" deaths, horror moments, creepy mysterious atmosphere, comeback of the Season 1 OST (Call of the witch and the Petelgeuse one in today's episode), a Dark Souls boss fight, every episode is centered around Subaru unlike Season 3 where everyone was spread around city at some point. Season 4 is just so good already and everyone says it just goes better and better. I swear the only thing we need is credit roll epic scene like in Season 1 EP 15 and it's instant 10/10 season.

not me, S3 was where all the cumulative actions and consequences of Subaru ripened. His entire hard work of building relation with all the important characters paid off in one way or another, which I rarely see in media. After s1, where he was treated as shit, and now everyone respects him, that's development right there. And the best part, he didn't have to die because of s2 now he takes his life more seriously and won't take RBD as just a convenience tool like I feared. Idk what you had expectations of re zero but I started the series quite late after s3 dropped so I didn't have any preset expectations from it other than it was good from what I knew reading the weekly episode posts. So I went in without any biased expectations set by trailers or fans just knowing it is supposed to be good and I wasn't disappointed at slightest.

It's always fun when Subaru gets to flex his astronomy otaku muscles. So basically, no one from this world could've solved this puzzle unless they're from our world and have a vast knowledge of astronomy. I guess this confirms that Flugel is from our world and Japanese, based on the Japanese carving Subaru found on the tree.

Just wanted to comment that I love these slower-paced, lore building and character interaction focused episodes. Obviously episodes like the last one are going to get the big headlines and all the hype, but it's episodes like these that make those kind of episodes feel meaningful and substantial.

Nobody wants to be haunted by Petelgeuse and Regulus of all people, who even past death is STILL WHINING ABOUT HIS RIGHTS, but hey Satella! Still effective with that creepy “I love you” ASMR! Not sure how long they can keep up the act that Subaru is just Flugel with amnesia, but it at least means that Shaula is willing to work with them and help them through the tower, especially if it means it gets fully restored to the Great Pleaides Library. I do love how she gives Meili a piggyback ride and Meili acts like such a kid calling her "naked lady" and playing with her scorpion ponytail. It's nice to know Rem and Patrasche are somewhere safe and Ram will be watching over them. Can we trust Shaula not to kill them again? I guess so long as she thinks Subaru is Flugel. Imagine finding out a legendary Sword Saint, Reinhard's ancestor, was a manchild bully who was pretty awful. Julius really just had to ask again because he couldn't believe it, poor guy. Emilia just nervously standing becuase she just touched every monolith she could was super adorable. Subaru's star knowledge comes in handy once again! He knows about the star Shaula and Orion and can piece together the answer to the riddle! Which begs the question as to why astronomy knowledge from OUR world is necessary for a trial in THIS one. But at least they've moved past the first exam and made it to the Great Library! I'm sure they'll be some answers there and nothing that will kill them! Probably! God I can smell Shaula's heart-breaking backstory coming a mile away, it's always so with the genki girls. We already saw the crack when Subaru told her to not harm the party. Left alone for _four hundred years_, just guarding that tower/library. Who knows how long she would be stuck doing that if Subaru hadn't turned up. She feels like an artificial construct made by the Sage (who mostly likely was isekai'd like Subaru) who went and probably died.. leaving her alone and waiting forever? Ugh. I'm sure there is way more to it.

Hey, we are back to no-opening episodes. Now, the season is really starting. I was already wondering with the way Shaula talked if Flügel was also from Subaru's world and that is where she picked up that speech pattern. But the ending solidified it. Though, I don't think that there are this many star lovers in our world, so I think it's fair to assume that Flügel also created the archbishops and gave them their names. There is still the possibility that we are dealing with some form of time travel and Flügel is actually Subaru as well, but I don't want to go too deep into that theory for now. Since we don't know enough about him.

It also got me theorizing about why Subaru could open those door-walls, I assume it has to do with witch factors. Subaru has Sloth and then he has either Envy or Pride's factors within him... It's safe to assume he doesn't have Regulus' witch factor, or maybe he does and it just hasn't activated or something. Either way, he probably has two shoved in there somewhere and that's why he can open them, possibly, perchance. I'm also curious about just how many people are Subaru. I've seen theories of Al being Subaru and now Flügel being Subaru, but I'm frankly iffy on anyone but Subaru being Subaru. It does all seem somewhat planned in the end, right? Subaru knows about constellations and all the sin archbishops are named after stars, Subaru himself being named after the japanese name for the Pleiades constellation. Subaru = Pleiades Pleiades = watchtower housing Satella Satella = one of the seven witches Seven Witches = Seven sisters (referring to the Pleiades' stars) Subaru = WITCH?!?!?!?!?! Jokes aside though, if I didn't know any better I'd just assume that the world of Re:Zero (which has no name iirc) is created by humans or something. Almost all the witches are named after fictional, mythological beings (Is Carmilla named after the vampire Carmilla?) the Earth constellation references and the ryokan from season 3. We already know there's more other-worlders like Al and Flügel, but just how much of this world is shaped by Earth? Now Shaula is very interesting, she smells of deception to me honestly. Maybe not in personality but definitely in knowledge or intention. She seemed eerily serious at Subaru's order not to hurt his friends, like she understood Subaru's suspicion? It's very weird, this whole thing just feels weird. We're progressing too well for what is only episode 4, shit's gonna hit the fan for sure.

No OP this time. Well, here we go again. Petelgeuse and Regulus: "Nobody invited us. But we're here anyway." Man, Petelgeuse looks more disgusting than usual in Season 4 artstyle. Wtf happened to him. SHE'S HERE! SHAULA IS HERE! SHE'S SOOOO ADORABLE. Ai Fairouz was literally the perfect pick to voice her. And apparently, she didn't even audition for the role. The staff asked her to voice Shaula directly, and she accepted. We were blessed. And I LOVE how expressive she is! White Fox really did a great job. The production value of Season 4 is just unbelievable after going through Season 2 six years ago. Lmao Emilia got jealous and kicked Subaru. That's rare. But love to see it. Subaru impressed everyone with his elite ball knowledge again. This episode was the calm after the storm that was Episodes 2 and 3. And since this is Re:ZERO it's basically the calm before the storm too. This episode was over too fast. I can't wait for the next one.

Aside from the Satella power and Roswaal from Season 2, it feels like there’s something more to this story. It can’t just be a crazy coincidence that Subaru resembles Flugel (by being the aura monster) and there’s like parallels to it too. Like the Orion puzzle just happens to work here because Subaru knows astronomy and myths really well. I don’t think the average person would know about this at all lol. It does remind me how his knowledge helped defeat Regulus as well. Yeah, there definitely has to be more to the story than just how he conveniently knows astronomy. Also, I kinda see the resemblance of Shaula in Beatrice. Both of them for 400 years or so have been managing a library and have space-warping abilities (Sand Time and Forbidden Library).

Hello everyone. I just finished catching up to Re:Zero today. This might one of the best episodes of the entire series. Astronomy lore, Satella looking hotter than last time, and a new best girl candidate. I love Shaula already. She's adorkable, bubbly, and sexy with a great outfit. She even made Emilia jealous and pout which was so precious. Hopefully that means Emilia's feelings are growing towards Subaru. I mean you don't get jealous about people you don't care about. That said, something doesn't feel right. Things are lining up too neatly for Subaru and it's causing this tension. I think it's safe to say that Flugel is from Earth, but why does Subaru have the same smell as Flugel? Shaula says that she was Flugel's student so I don't think it's a stretch to say that her her outfit matches her master's colour scheme, but why is that Subaru's colour scheme as well? How did Flugel name her? Is she a spirt Flugel created? Why does this Watchtower have a puzzle that requires knowledge from another world? Why does the Watchtower and Subaru share a name? So many dang questions. We'll find out more eventually. One is for sure. Everything keeps coming back to something happening 400 years and Subaru is somehow connected to it. It's as if whatever happened 400 years ago was so bad that couldn't be fixed so they had to reset the world by sealing Satella and reincarnating Flugel as Subaru with Return By Death as a failsafe so what happened 400 years doesn't happen again.

Even though Re:Zero doesn’t seem to be inspired by a specific time period analogous to the real world (as opposed to just, common fantasy aesthetics), some of the clothing choices still come across as anachronistic to me.  And no character so far irks me as much as Shaula. Why is she wearing a bikini top and booty shorts? The cape is cool but come on.

this episode was the calm after the storm that we needed (and probably before another 10 storms). fairouz ai really stole the show this episode though, she’s bringing the strong dumbass energy she did with power for shaula. the biggest revelation of the episode is that subaru paid attention during what little astronomy he learned in school before becoming a truant

This menacing tension that just won't let up regarding Subaru, himself. It's an ongoing theme of the show, that there may be something wrong with Subaru that's fundamental to this whole situation. Simple questions like: 1) why is he a Sin Archduke, 2) why are all the names of bad guys things that he, specifically, would have used, and 3) why does the witch love him? Did they mess with time at some point in all this? Is the witch really Emilia? This Flugel business is just another hot mess stacked on top of an even bigger hot mess balanced on top of a bunch of Subaru's dead bodies (and the bodies of his friends). This show is too good at pain.

The latter also works with Return by Death and being from the future. If he can always succeed and already knows what will come to pass, how would he not be a sage? Also, if it IS in fact Subaru, my tinfoil hat theory that there are branching Subaru's feel even stronger. What if Sage Subaru is one who took Echidna's deal in s2 and now knows all? Yep, Flugel the Sage. I noted the discrepancy before, with Shaula being known as the Sage, when we'd previously heard the name "Flugel the Sage." The one who planted the tree, and the one Geuse apologized to when he took in the Authority of Sloth. I think Subaru's connection to him goes deeper than potentially being touched by a Witch of Sin, which is why he could open those doors- I don't see having a connection with a Witch letting you through if that was indeed where Satella was sealed. Seems like the exact opposite people you'd want getting in. If Shaula attacks people by magically manipulating her hair to strike at people like it's a scorpion tail, I'm gonna laugh. I wonder if the spirit there could heal Ram's severed horn. Julius's line about it being fitting that it's called a monolith feels like a nod to 2001: A Space Odyssey. I'd like to point out that the stars of Orion's Belt point in one direction to the star Aldebaraan, the eye of the constellation Taurus (a bull Orion hunted), and in the other to Sirius in the constellation Canis Major (one of Orion's dogs). And inside the head of Taurus lies the Pleiades star cluster, the Seven Sisters whom Orion was said to have chased. The Subaru. That plus Betelgeuse being the most prominent star in Orion, feels like it can't all be coincidence.

Where have we heard Flugel before? I remember Flugel's tree. I'm a bit surprised Shaula says her master is Flugel and not Satella if she recognizes him by scent. And that's a pretty bad way to recognize someone since unless the smell is caused by magic (like the witch's miasma) scent can rub off onto other things. That garden that Subaru calls a jungle looks very cool. It seems there were man-built marble structures there now being overrun by roots. The artists put a lot of work into it. I wonder how the trees live since there doesn't seem to be enough light. Are the trees magical? Are some of them normal trees but the spirit of the room nourishes them? I'm surprised Ram was able to interrogate the room's spirit (since Ram is able to explain everything to Subaru she must have found out earlier) while Subaru was knocked out since I would have thought Emillia would have done it. I just love Shaula's bouncy boobs. I don't care that I don't think they could bounce like that. I mean they are strapped down by her outfit. So I assume that would prevent bouncing the same way a bikini would.

Like...she was doing finger guns, which doesn't make sense in a world without guns. Plus she had Engrish phrases, which I don't remember if any native characters had any.

Holy, Yūsuke Kobayashi was not exaggerating before the season aired when he specifically praised Fairouz Ai for her performance. In less than 20 minutes of screentime, she is close to or has arguably already stolen the whole season. Major props to the animators, who clearly understand and are doing everything in their power to give Shaula the quick and energetic movements that correspond both with the character and personality and presence Fairouz Ai is bringing to it. Overall, a slower episode than the madness of last week, but one that properly sets up the mystery of the watchtower. I would say Fairouz Ai single handedly maintained the engagement with the episode.

Way to go not dying this episode Subaru! I thought bikini girl was going to be the sage so this is a fun twist. I am a bit worried about them all calling Subaru by his real name in front of the scary lady who thinks he is someone else but I am glad she hasn't gotten suspicious so far. The zoom in on the spots in her eyes earleir was ominious as hell. A library used by/created by someone from our world who also smelled like the witch of envy. And likely the person that Satellia thinks that Subaru is as well. We are getting teased answers but I feel like we are just going to get more questions. The smell thing trips me up as I think Rem could smell it, Betty can, and Garf can't actually. I kinda thought the answer would be written in japanese through the layout of the monoliths but nope constellations which is cool. Subaru naming the stones is not a good sign for Flugel not being a past/future version of him but more likely just what someone from our world in Japan would call them anyways. I legit flinched when he said Betelgeuse, I am still traumatized by that man. I hope at least some of these books are recreations from our world and Subaru can nerd out over them. How is this library organized and catalogued I hoping they go into it a bit We have a library in a desert so as Avatar the last airbender has taught me, watch out for owl spirits. I am guessing Shaula is a spirit as she isn't human? She is named after a mythical scorpion maybe she demi scorpion human?
