it’s been a common occurrence throughout the entire series but subaru has reason to fear/hate almost the entire cast based off of what happened in failed loops. i mean this isn’t even the first time ram tried to kill him! everyone in that right side of the cave went insane, him included, so it speaks to how mentally fortified he is that he didn’t immediately get PTSD upon ram waking him up. he sees the worst AND the best of people, minutes after seeing her bisect a person (even though subaru provoked her into doing so), in the next loop ram’s willing to lay down her life for him. subaru sees everyone at their rock bottom as well as their greatest heights

...There's something truly existentially horrifying about being driven to murderous insanity by an invisible malevolence in the air. It's like radiation poisoning, but instead of making you want to die, it makes you want to kill everybody else. And boy, did White Fox *not* hold back on showing any of it. If this whole episode was any indication, I think we can put any lingering concerns about censorship to bed. Also, I can't be the only one who has noticed how much *punchier* the sound design for Season 4 has been, right? Like, don't get me wrong; Re:ZERO's sound design has always been some of the best that the medium has to offer. But this season has been on an entirely new level. It first stood out to me last episode with the needle-sniping. And the *cave*... my god, it feels like I'm going crazy myself when I hear the sounds of all of the cracking, the squelching, the chewing. It's practically miasma in auditory form. I'll just say it: this was not a good time. Which, in true Re:ZERO fashion, makes it one of the best times I've ever had. I wonder what that says about me.

###Stitches! * Subaru & Rem * New Crazy Waifu? After watching Subaru get through the entirety of Season 3 with barely using RbD, it's absolutely gutwrenching (pun intended) to see these brutal deaths again. Not gonna lie, my stomach turned at the scene where Eridna was clinging to Subaru while her intestines fell out of her body. O_O And I did not expect that to end with Subaru getting his head bitten off by Patrasche. Fuuuuuuuck. I guess the gates they were passing through were keeping the miasma out? Not gonna lie, I was more relieved to see that insane-looking Mabeast on the other path. At least if Subaru was going to reset, he could try to strategize against that. There's really not much he can do against the miasma. But it looks like RbD won't be needed since they got saved by the same needle-hurling woman who tried to kill them last episode.

In an episode filled with despair, gore and straight up vitriolic mortal combat the one aspect that surprisingly affected me the most was the kindness of Ram. Even when corrupting miasma is weighing them down and impairing everyone's judgement Ram’s focus is always turned outwards. Always thinking of the people she cares about. And the person she arguably cared for most, Rem. With a similar outwards facing outlook is Subaru, but miasma leads his insecurities to flare up to the max and a simple tongue click is enough to lead him to strangle Ram. I’d like to point out that the people Subaru and Foxidna are thinking of the most in this moment are themselves. But for Ram, the only person on her mind is Rem. And for that she gets betrayed and gormandized.     Much like Emilia in S2Ep10 after seeing someone she cares about in distress, Ram can’t help but help in her own way. She also hates to see people suffer as evidenced by her mercy killing in S1Ep7. So it’s no surprise that she helps Subaru puke up the foulness that must still reside in his body from last loop.   Ram and Subaru’s relationship really feels like an elder sister taking care of her younger brother. Most endearing to me personally is her babying Subaru a bit with her “I’m gwad you feel all bwetter”. Most heroically to most I would wager is her last stand against the charging Witchbeast. She is the most fatigued, yet is the last to fall.   With a tongue sharper than the teeth that ended her life last loop she tries to hide it, but she really does care.

I was told to expect Kiss of Death levels of craziness in this episode, but I didn't expect this! I did not need to see Anastasia's entrails as she pathetically clung onto Subaru begging for help. Was Subaru literally unlocking the doors to where Satella's body is being kept? No wonder the Sage was trying to kill him! That monster in the sand pit seemed like a breath of fresh air in comparison. I was like "this seems doable with about 3 or 4 return by deaths". The Sage seems younger than I expected. Maybe shes their apprentice? Well it seems like we've already succeeded, but I doubt its that easy. I expect that she'll only help Rem if Subaru does something dangerous for her first.

Can we talk about how, after the new loop started, Subaru sat down on the ground and hugged his knees? That was just too sad. He must’ve been reliving everything that just happened, how he tried to kill Ram, how he hysterically pushed away Ana’s upper half, and how his loyal Patrasche killed him. The fact that he managed to stay calm and just curl up like that shows how he’s slowly starting to get used to these fucked up situations…

That got really creepy. Everyone suddenly turning on each other like that just out of the blue. Anastasia getting cut in half was the icing on the cake. The waifus usually dont get the gore treatment and the last i remember was Rem getting twisted way back at 1st season What helped deliver it also was that Subaru seems to be the only one outwardly affected by the miasma acting OOC and ultimately the one to snap first. I wonder if its possibly because the other 2 had more resistance How did no one notice the miasma? Rem was smelling that shit like cocaine from Subaru. That mabeast centaur design was honestly really good

#THE PAIN TRAIN RETURNS Oh Subaru is with Ram. Subaru freaking out about rem not being there damn. Oh Foxy and Patarsh is with us too nice. A split in the path, Subaru says people usualy go left so he goes right. I do always go Left or always go center depending on the number of choices. Oh we found a door and Subaru opened it? Maybe the doors keep out mabeasts? Ram and Foxy aint lookin good shit. They feel heavy? Oh a third door that didnt open shit. Everyone is being irritable? Something it causing this probabyly. Remember why we are here to Wake Rem. Jesus Subaru hit Ram with his hand... Now hes choking her what the hell is going on. Foxy killed Ram oh shit... what the hell of going on here. AND RAM BISECTED FOXY JESUS! Well we ar starting off with a terrible timeline. Oh no... patarsh is snacking on someone... who did she eat? Subaru. HA!! HAA! THANK GOD WE RESET JESUS CHRIST! There is Miasma here that is tainting them? Maybe behind doors is the thick miasma? Left this time. oh boy... Subaru is being excessively nice now. Something is burning here? A ray of light? And a sand pit oh shit. A lot of bones around here well shit. And a Freaky ass Ma Beast hs here jesus christ.... This thing shoots anythign that moves we gotta run ad dodge. Well we got hit shit... do we live? Ram is going to fight it shit. SOMETHING SHOT IT UP FULL OF HOLES! OH THE SNIPER GIRL! SHE FOUND US SHIT! NOOOOO THE EP ENDED!

Just Subaru's luck that he would get stuck with Ram and her sarcasm and jibes after everyones' been separated and he's stuck in an underground sandy cavern. Even if he's the one who grabbed her in the first place (did he think she was Rem?). But the main priority has GOT to be Rem, especially considering her condition, and that's something both Subaru and Ram can begrudgingly agree on. Also, Foxidna and Patrasche are here so now it's a party! A party who can't really fight, but still. When in doubt, follow the teachings of Freud and go right when you see a split tunnel. What could possibly go wrong? I mean, sure they find walls that can only be opened by Subaru for some reason, sure Patrasche is getting bad vibes, sure everyone starts looking haggard and at the end of their mental rope, and sure Subaru tosses their water...but I'm sure everything is going to be okay! Of course next thing you know they find a wall that won't disappear, Subaru is crashing out at everyone and everything, Ram accuses him of not caring about Rem at all (was it deliberate that he focused on the Sage and nothing else?), and then Subaru is punching Ram and trying to choke her to death. Like, jeez Subaru! I know she took her stress out on mocking you, but come on! Something's not right here. Ram's not going to die without a fight...even if Foxidna just stabs her in the back because she prioritized Subaru over Ram. Subaru looked like he was about to choke Foxidna too before Ram sliced her in half as one last "screw you" so now Subaru's got poor Anastasia's upper torso hanging onto him for dear life while she's using guts. That's a visual that stays with you. No, not Best Girl Patrasche eating everybodies' head and cackling evilly! Okay, so, obviously this time they for sure go left and Subaru is on his best behavior, even if the ladies think he can't pull it off as well as Julius. But can you blame him? Well, there's no walls or miasma to drive everyone to murder each other, but there IS an underground colosseum with Mabeasts and a Dark Souls boss. Though what a contrast to how Ram was treating him before that she puts in every effort to protect Barusu for Rem's sake...even if it means sacrificing herself. But luckily those needles that were killing Subaru before now end up killing their Boss Battle...and a busty, scantily-clad, beautie in a ponytail voiced by Fairouz Ai walks in happy to see them. The ED is very effective with blood pouring all over the cast and one big cool panning group shot! And Subaru reaching for a hand that cannot reach his! The new girl looking cheery and throwing papers away! Symbolism that escapes me now but I'm sure will make sense as we watch the season. Episodes with OP: 2 Episodes with ED: 1

I'm gonna vomit I think, I'm right there with you Subaru. Genuinely holy fucking shit bro, how can we move on from this??? I'm surprised they kept the episode going after that insanity, I genuinely need two weeks to recover from that gore fest. I noticed they were way too ticked off at each other, but I could imagine Ram being so sick of the cave that she genuinely gets into a bad mood, but when Subaru threw away the bag with the water I knew some bullshit was afoot... But never in a million years could I have guessed what was gonna happen after that, I'm lowkey traumatized. Subaru's tantrum turning into immediate violence when questioned, him trying to tower over Ram as he insulted her and tried to "keep her in line" if you'll forgive the expression. It's so so intense, I was surprised by how it seemed to affect them all differently in a way that didn't just seem like anger. Subaru had some weird, patriarchal, toxic male rage that is now uncharacteristic of him, at least compared to season 1's breakdown at the royal capital. Ram's thing felt like she was trying to get under Subaru's skin as much as possible, throwing Rem at him over and over to call him useless. Now ~~Echidna~~ Anastasia was the most interesting to me, she had this psychopathic feel to her, she didn't feel bad nor take joy in killing, she just kinda does it for the sake of it is how it felt. It was so so weird. Could it be... that Echidna was unaffected and this is just what she believes Anastasia would do? Did Ram chop Anastasia in half to save Subaru or just to kill? Either way it was fucking horrifying, especially seeing that Echinda DIED IMMEDIATELY AND ANASTASIA WAS THE ONE TO BEG SUBARU!!!! AND THIS IDIOT SAYS "You're already dead, I can't help you, idiot!" WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON BRO!!! I think the miasma amplifies peoples' worst traits: \- Subaru's over-the-top, Regulus-like rage stemming from his healing inferiority complex; \- Ram's sadistic, scathing remarks and general lack of faith in others; \- Anastasia's/Echidna's pragmatism, to the detriment of morality. The miasma is actual chemical warfare, this is the dream of any warmonger: An invisible, imperceptible gas which forces people to kill each other, who needs bombs! It's actually monstrous, I'm gonna need a while to recover from Subaru throwing Anastasia's top half over his shoulder, not to mention Patrasche's laugh before lunging at Subaru. THIS IS WHY WE LISTEN TO PATRASCHE AND NOT FREUD!!!

It feels special when we get both the OP and ED in one episode, hehe. I always think of Hunter x Hunter when I have to choose between going left or right (and remember the "humans usually choose left" statement). As someone who has been in a psychology class, OMG do *not* trust Sigmund Freud (actual historical event: "Little Hans scared of horses... it's obviously because he thinks incest is wincest"). Most of all, I want to say that Re Zero's emotional rollercoasters are my favourite ones.

I was not prepared for this episode. Before shit really hit the fan I was annoyed at Subaru for his character reverting but nope just miasma which makes everyone tense and murdery. I do like Subaru trying to be extra considerate to them afterwards and it creeping them out. Here is hoping no one else is near any miasma, how does miasma effect spirits? Subaru faces an eldin ring boss and Ram tries to sacrifice herself to save him but the lady firing needles at everyone steps in. Her walking towards them at the end with her arms out just made me laugh as it is such an unnatural pose.

The technical presentation of the cave scene was super cool. The uneasy blue screen filter with glares, the upwards pan to Anastasia's face framed in a way to look like a doorbell camera. Her smirk, the invincible providence skipping the hand shake, The blood dropping off the dagger leading into the glare + blue screen concealing the color and cast of Ram's spell. Was just overall a super cool sequence that was the highlight of the episode imo. I kinda wish they kept the color for after the bisection to highlight the insanity of the scene in a snap back to reality type of thing but I figure it probably is the only way they can show something as gorey as that without going into viewer fatigue + censorship. The way they handled Ram's spell as well reminded me of the tower defense turret lol. One thing I think a show like this can fall victim to is making all the deaths easy to stomach bc of the revive mechanism, but they do a really good job of making cool little additions to keep everything memorable and fresh.

I personally, would choose the right path, because the right hand rule. Hmm, maybe this door is like an illusion that appears differently to different people. Though it didn't look particularly doorlike to me. Ay yo Subaru... I guess that checks out though, given the amount of suffering he goes through. I wonder if they are ineffective. Perhaps Subaru is special. Subaru did look to be targeted last episode, and that person said they "found him". Maybe they only open for Subaru or something. Maybe it's like a magic spell? Feels on point for Re:Zero and whatever this place is. Throwing away your canteen in a desert has to be a mistake. AND IT STILL HAS WATER IN IT??? Subaru definitely seems impaired now. Them's some fightin words. That ain't cool Subaru. You got enough hardships, you don't need to create more of them. But I'm pretty sure he's being magically impaired right now. In this state? I think it was in the trailer. Re:Zero is looking real good. That's been on the weaker aspects of it imo. That that it was bad before, but the other aspects of the production I thought were just S tier and the animation was only average most of the time. ??? Kinda reminds me of Evangelion. I think it's the solid orange background color and the dark shapes. Also was that Ram? Or someone offscreen? Ah, this person. Found once again. Also an OP and ED. How lucky we are. Also a generally superb episode! These blood shots on black background are very unsettling. Though I'm a bit disappointed with the ED animation. There isn't much going on with it.

"Don't worry Patrasche is a vegetarian" ARE YOU SURE SUBARU. Well that certainly was unsettling, especially for Subaru who now has yet another horrifyingly traumatising experience that he needs to live with now, that being of his pet literally ripping his head off... among the other colourful things that happened in that segment. I like that they used a sort of night vision filter for that scene cause there would have barely been any light otherwise, making it so that we can see all the horrifying scenes clearly and offer some sliiiight form of gore censorship. And then as his luck as the Dark Souls of Isekai MC has it he runs into an actual Dark Souls boss right after, thankfully he was playing coop otherwise he would be screwed here as well.

WHAT. THE. FUCK. This was the creepiest episode of Re:ZERO, possibly ever. It kept the creepiness from the beginning to the end. White Fox really outdid themselves here. I remember when I first watched the Kiss of Death scene in Season 2, I thought how cool it'd be if there was another scene like this in a similar style. They did NOT disappoint. Instead, they surpassed my expectations. Like wtf was that bruh. I loved how they did some scenes in monochrome. They were probably able to get away with showing more gore than usual because of it. Yet it didn't harm the scenes. If anything, it made them even creepier. The animation, the voice acting, and the music are just unbelievable. If Yusuke Kobayashi doesn't win best performance for Re:ZERO again Idk who will. Subaru here is fighting Dark Souls and Bloodborne level of fuckery here. And that was RIGHT after the cave loop. If I were him, I'd probably just give up atp. Fuck this shit, I'm out. Finally, we got the ED! Yeah, the visuals are a step down from Season 3's NOX LUX. But that ED was basically an anomaly. It was better than like half the OPs that came out that year. And I heard the staff said there will be some episodes where they won't show the ED, but it will play in the background like Season 1 and 2. That was missing in Season 3. So it makes sense why they didn't invest too much into the ED visuals this time. Other than the visuals, MYTH & ROID x TK is a collab I never thought I'd see. Ender Ember sounds so freaking good. Now that I've listened to Recollect so many times it's time to listen to Ender Ember now. Wonder how many episodes will skip the ED visuals. But yeah, it's obvious they focused much more on OP this time, which is rare for Re:ZERO. Man, the wait for this episode was brutal. But it was worth it. Now I'll have to wait for the next episode again...

Absolutely brutal episode and I need more, felt like I blinked and the episode was over, next week cant come soon enough. Also the banter between Ram and Subaru was great but also fantastic since it help keep both sane especially Ram well until the miasma did its thing. The atmosphere and tension were fantastic especially during the miasma scene and seeing them lose their minds was great but damn that Patrache laughter got me it was so creepy and she went for the head (Thor could learn a thing or 2 from her) But now the sniper lady is helping them ? Things get more and more interesting. I have a video review if anyone is interested. Thank You.

WOW! That's my short review of this terrific episode, a big wow, especially the first part, when Subaru, Ram, Anastasia/Echidna, and Patrasche turned on each other, and Subaru was killed by Patrasche. Everything from the direction, voice acting, visuals, and sound design worked perfectly; you could feel that something was very, very wrong... Subaru's second attempt went better, though definitely not perfect, since he encountered that weird centaur/monster or something. Fortunately, it looks like he and Ram were saved by I don't know who, but I definitely like her design ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). I feel like Subaru has some sort of connection to this place. It'd be one thing if the doors just opened for like, like a "you are worthy" type thing, but the fact he inexplicably knew they were doors implies something more direct, I think. After seeing Subaru and the others like Ram grow so much closer over 70 episodes, it hurts a surprising amount to see them truly going after eachother, and you know shit's bad when Subaru physically lashes out against a friend, and watching him truly trying to hurt Ram... yikes. And shit, Eridna seemed like she was mostly immune to the aggression, just feeling exhausted, but choosing to stab Ram purely to keep the more useful Subaru around feels extreme. She hinted that she's willing to do anything for Ana, so I think this is just her normal nature amplified and she's better at hiding it. Also hiding the knife was... shockingly cute. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure showing the fox pelt on the ground was indicating that the terrified bisected Ana clinging to Subaru WAS the real Ana. She "woke up" to that... I CALLED IT, THE PATRASCHE IS A VEGETARIAN LINE WAS FUCKING FORESHADOWING. Call me a goddamn prophet, I know how you write, Tappei Nagatsuki. Also Patrasche's "laugh" was terrifying. So if Miasma is absorbed through the Gate, then if you have no Gate or your Gate is closed somehow, you must be immune to it, right? We've got some interesting case studies here for that- Subaru's Gate is damaged but he's still affected. Ram can absorb mana but only "manually," and she still aborbs the miasma unconsciously and is affected as much as Subaru. I'm guessing someone capable of consuming more mana via their Gate like Emilia would succumb quicker. I wonder if Meili's affected, or if her association with Mabeasts gives her resistance or immunity. But more importantly... do Spirits have Gates? Spirit Contracts are a way people with defective Gates can use magic, but does the Spirit produce their own mana or do they also absorb it from the environment? Eridna can use magic via Ana's Gate depsite is being defective, so I'm guessing even if Spirits have no Gate she's affected through Ana's. But is Beatrice susceptible to it?

I dont know enough about it, I appreciate the sand. My first watch through i was distracted, but on my second i'm mesmerized. the first shot of the feet in the sand and it dispersing was so cool. for them to embrace being in the desert and adapting their animation process to accomplish it is awesome. the next shot is less impactful but no less awesome. thanks for incorporating 3d modeling seamless way.

But I loved that afterwards, Subaru was extra considerate to his companions, because he truly cares for them and instantly wishes to counteract how he treated them when affected by the miasma. It's a bit concerning how excited I got when Subaru Suffering Time started. This is what an entire season of no RBD does to a Re:Zero fan. Also god DAMN Ram standing up to protect Subaru in the end was badass. The first part of the episode showed us the (miasma-amplified) darker sides of these characters, but in case anyone needed one this was a good reminder that when it counts, they're still willing to put their lives on the line for those they care about. Week 2 update: still not feeling the OP. I quite like the ED though, as far as Myth&Roid's Re:Zero songs go.

That was the worst secret tunnel trip ever. The kill on the fox and Anastasia in particular, good lord. Honestly, thanks to Patrasche for finishing Subaru off and causing the loop to reset. As far as timelines to leave behind go that one was a doozy. Not that the fight against the demon boss was any better, without the bikini sniper girl coming in with the assist it would have been a quick trip back to Subaru waking up in the sand.

They didn't pull any punches with the gore for the cave deaths, the facial expressions were done amazingly, how it slowly build up before Subaru strangled Ram was done well. That few second pause after Patrasche charged at Subaru just for us to see the aftermath is perfection The animation in this episode was also really good, I already mentioned the cave but when Subaru and Ram were fighting the Centaur. The sage! The ED is a HUGE step down from Nox Lux in the visual department but the song is amazing, iirc, this is the first Re:Zero OP/ED with a male vocalist right?

And I thought they being stuck in the underground tunnels was already bad, but as soon as they started to get spaced out, I knew something worse was happening, and it had to be magic radiation that turns you into a psychopath. Man having to mark *killed by Patrasche* was so sad, especially after last episode when she died protecting him. What was with the walls though? Perhaps we will find out later. It's unbelievable ironic that left path seemed to be a fraction of the length and already led them somewhere, although it was more going from the hard place straight to fire. Now they are trapped with machine gun bikini girl.
