I believe Ana was herself for the most of the time on screen, but then switched moment shit hit the fan when Sirius attacked her, and then she let Echidna handle it, since she can do also do a bit of magic which was useful against Capella, but Julius got eaten so she refused to switch back to not forget him.

The kingdom of Lugunica has a covenant with the "Divine Dragon". He is also the reason the Royal Selection is even happening in the way it is. After the whole royal family died to a mysterious illnesss, they discovered instructions on how to select a new ruler on something called "Dragon Stone" - choose one "priestess" from 5 candidates that will enter into a new covenant with the dragon and becomes the next ruler (this is all in the Royal Selection episode, so I think s1e13?). Plus one of the episodes before that reveals that part of Roswaal's ultimate plan is killing the dragon (I think it's the episode where the mabeast dogs that are cursing people in the mansion are handled, when Roswaal talks with Ram about how the child that was likely behind it got away).
