I sing it's praises and recommend it wherever I can. It's easy to recommend, especially for people asking for safe stuff for kids. Wholesome characters, not crazy in gore or violence, not crazy in sexy stuff and what they have tends to be comedy, the perv is tolerable... Easy one-sentence pitch to normies too, that it's like if Tim Burton created a Harry Potter anime. Only reason I can think of why it hasn't picked up overseas is that the overseas markets prefer edgy and mature. =/

I think it’s less Iruma being pure that he couldn’t say no to but more his enthusiastic ambition/“selfishness”. Although I guess that’s pure too since Iruma feels desire without malice. It’s been a theme throughout the whole show that being a bit greedy/selfish/ambitious isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s just like how Iruma pulled the class into fighting for Royal One — through him they realize that there’s nothing wrong with pursuing their desires.

Yeah, it’s not Iruma being pure but rather Iruma, in his own selfish way, being selfless and wanting his classmates to succeed, be praised for their talents and follow their ambitions. All these things he once didn’t have and is only starting to get the hang of now. Iruma never wanted to push Purson to perform for the sake of the Misfit Class, but after seeing him on the trumpet he went from “you can say no if you want” to “ you have to play so people can hear how good you are! ” and showing that he cares about Purson rather than just his class and himself is what convinced him to give it a go.

How do you make a new character stand up to a whole cast that’s been shining for 2-3 seasons now? By making him the most relatable character of all time! It’s genius that Purson’s lack of appearances is actually explained to the point where there’s an actual reason why he’s only been in the background until now (as many have been pointing out throughout the seasons): it’s literally his power. It’s fascinating how selfish Iruma’s selflessness has become. He really wants to help others show off their value, but he’s started pushing them to do so regardless of whether they want to or not! He’s so kind and charming that he inevitably convinces them, but it’s fascinating how it genuinely comes from a selfless place yet can still come across as selfish. I’M SO GLAD TO BE BACK!

I love how they used legit scenes from past seasons to show him and we can see how far the animation has come since then. It’s fascinating how selfish Iruma’s selflessness has become. He really wants to help others show off their value, but he’s started pushing them to do so regardless of whether they want to or not! He’s so kind and charming that he inevitably convinces them, but it’s fascinating how it genuinely comes from a selfless place yet can still come across as selfish. It's his selfish desire but it's one that's meant to enrich them and make them feel better about themselves in the process.

I’m so happy this show is back! I’m glad the show seeded shots of Purson well before this. Makes him feel like a true member of the class instead of a character created just for this arc (I’m a manga reader but I don’t remember if that’s the case there). Anyway I think they executed this episode splendidly. Especially the rooftop scene with Iruma. What a jump in animation quality for that scene! I don’t think this show has dug down this deeply on a character since Clara in an early episode of Iruma. Or at least something about Purson is making the character work hit better than usual for me. Elizabetta finally getting some spotlight too. The setup for the festival is making me feel the hype. This show has always done well with music. I hope they exceed expectations this season. Shoutout to Purson’s VA. His delivery was perfect.

Agreed. I'm primarily a dub watcher(so I'm glad we got a dub same week), and I was surprised. Do you think either of his VAs did that speed talk naturally, or was it artificially sped up? Because if the former, kudos to his voice actor(s). I mean there are extremely talented VAs, like Carol's in Tomo-chan is a girl who speaks such perfect Japanese and English. And Alya's(both versions), who speak both Russian and their native Japanese/English so fluently. Then there's the guy who did Dinobot and Rattrap in Transformers Beast Wars, who could change voices on a dime. Oh, and Bocchi's VA who could make such a horrifying sound with just her mouth and vocal cords without any electronic editing.

I like how Iruma's eye catch has evolved, from "Sure!" to "I'll take care of it!" He's still a good boy, but there's more backbone and confidence there. I've always mentioned that my favorite little world-building detail is how all demon clothing has wing slits and this shows them off nicely. Oh, look. Purson plays an instrument. And this arc is about music. Lied explaining what the plot of this arc is going to be. "I'll never reveal my musical talent to anyone." Surprise Iruma! It's too late, Purson. Iruma is going to be your friend. Oh, the ED is focused on the girls again. Some new characters in the ED. Sukima! Purson's mom might be a bit of a troublemaker. Demon of the Week: Purson I'm not going to do these every week like I did last season, but we're getting focus on a few new demons this season, so I'll touch on them, at least. He knows of hidden things, can find treasures, and tells past, present and future. Anyway, Purson in stealth mode is rendered as a wisp of air, and he plays the trumpet.

I'm very excited to see how the rest of the class will react once they learn that Purson is actually the mysterious trumpet-playing Pixie.

I feel like she adapted to her families' need to standout and be invisible all the time by just messing/teasing them all. Although it's actually kind of sad that this family takes being invisible so seriously that the brother has basically 100% disappeared. And that's treated likea good thing. Sorry Purson, but it looks like you're also not immune to Iruma's charisma. Purson can really go on for a long time and speak so much in a short amount of time for someone who has been hiding in the background, I guess he's been really pent up from the lack of social interaction lol. His mother is amusing and I like that she's voiced by Hikasa Youko.  It's nice to see this class of misfits again, Clara is as cute as ever and Alice is still as loyal as ever. I'm looking forward to seeing Elizabetta's arc since that seemed to be teased in the OP, and the fact that she's the other who's still rank Bet.

I know the Purson Family simply don’t standout, which is why Soi boyo vanishes. But I still feel like Clara and Purson are both neurodivergent but Clara is an ND who needs constant stimulation and spontaneity to function whereas Purson has a lower threshold of stimulation tolerance. Extrovert AuDHD meets Introvert AuDHD and it goes poorly. I definitely find the way Purson talks about being paralyzed by social anxiety pretty relatable, if nothing else.

Oh hello 👋🏾 I was looking for your comment here and then got distracted by life. Did you do a demon of the day today? And for real . Nishi did a great job making this brand-new, never been seen before character relatable within like 15 minutes of meeting him. Out of the entire misfit class, I definitely relate to him the most. But I have trust issues with Nishi now, so I am reading Ichi very carefully to not be surprised again.

First timer as of about two months ago! Just had to say that one last time in honor of the rewatch we just finished, thanks again to Sky for hosting it. Ameri looking good in that dress in the OP. Purson is pretty great so far, but after that sukima bit with her at the end I might like his mother even more. One important detail I picked up, I'm pretty sure I heard Purson say boku in his first monologue to Iruma in class which means he joins Iruma and Lead as another boku boy if that stays consistent. I do feel really sympathetic to him as the only introvert in an entire class full of extroverts. ED reminds me of the S1 ED a bit with the same focus on Ameri, Clara, Keroli, and Elizabetta.

Saturdays this season are stacked! We have not only 4th season of Ascendance of a Bookworm, but also 4th season of Iruma-kun, and damn, it's good to be back ! I missed Iruma , Clara , Az , and the rest of Misfits so much! And Purson is definitely a great addition to them , though that might be the wrong word, since he was one of them from the very beginning. He just hid so well that almost no one noticed him until Kalego pointed him out , hahaha. The whole idea of ​​a music festival in the demon world sounds so fun, so I'm ready for some good music and a ton of fun, which should be guaranteed since we're talking about Misfits. I’ve been waiting to watch this all day!!! The glasses, lol. Huh, the glasses are actually new to this scene. The version of this from the end of season 3 did not have them. Pretty sure their outfits are different, too. Time for Purson to be important! Oh dang Iruma actually remembers his name. Ah, that explains why no one’s noticed him… Good luck with that… Hahahaha, that’s about how I was expecting that to go. CLARA NO! This is really impactful coming from Iruma. He speaks! Iruma and the Misfit Class is back! To take on Broadway...I mean, the music festival! Sound the trumpet! Iruma and the Misfit Class are back! Though this is also the trumpet of "pixie," who signals the true end to school at 5:00 PM on the dot! It's a classic, jazzin', Iruma OP! Featuring Iruma and the Misfit Class at their best, alongside other colorful characters! All culminating in a musical training arc and musical performance with Elizabetta as the lead and her and the class all dressed up! Purson on trumpet! Iruma on piano! Ameri in a dress! It's all fantastic! It's time for Winter Uniforms, but that hasn't changed Iruma and the gang or their objective of maintaining the Royal One by ranking everyone up to Dalet...and of special priority (particularly to Lead) is making sure Elizabetta ranks up. But she's not the only Bet-ranked student, as Kalego is happy to remind everyone about Purson Soi! Who has been there since season 1, if you've spotted him! But Purson doesn't really socialize and his detection warding bloodline ability means he can easily just "poof" out and not acknowledge or participate at all...so how are we going to convince him!? I mean, I'd probably fold with such a colorful plea from Clara, though count on Sabro to make it all about himself. I love how the one thing that gets his attention is the idea of being in a band...I mean, everyone (especially Elizabetta) looks great in those band outfits, but what Purson really cares about is the music. Count on Iruma to be the one Misfit Class member who can track him down and finally get him to rapid-fire open up! They're just dealing with an introvert following his families' creed of never standing out who gets exhausted with extroverts and loves music. Purson's struggled with his families' expectations and forcing to live up to a brother who is so invisible that he's never seen him, but at least his busty Yoko Hikasa MILF mom introduced him to the trumpet as a way of expressing himself when he had so many big feelings. And thus was the "Pixie" born. He's even got Kalego playing along to the music. Welp, the jig is up! Iruma's caught him! And Iruma truly believes that the world deserves to hear Purson's music! And if anyone can motivate/recruit somebody, it's Iruma! Now they've got accompanying trumpet, whether Purson is fully ready for it or not! It's an Iruma ED so you know it needs to spotlight the lovely ladies! Complete with Ameri, Clara, Elizabetta, and Keroli in K-Pop esque outfits they look amazing in! Next week: The return of Ronove! Su! Ki! Ma! I get the vibe Purson's mom enjoys messing with people.

It's great to be back. The wait between S3 and S4 has been the longest, but it looks as good as I remember. Purson might be the most relatable person in the class. He is the introvert who actually talks a lot when you get to know him. Essentially his abilities are best used to be hidden and thus be a spy. But of course that duty can be so lonely. This episode showcased how Iruma is good at creating connections. The rest of the class didn't do a good job of getting Purson to want to perform and feel comfortable. But Iruma focused on why Purson would want to perform.

Purson would make a really good vtuber I was thinking Purson-kun could do something incredibly important but in the shadows like handle mixing duties, or play bass on a Metallica cover. However, a Wild Iruma Appeared, and pretty much rizzed Purson-kun into doing it The trumpet looked awesome with the dragon, horns, and what looks like a spiked ring. The trumpet was played and he didn't use the 3rd valve often, and it's not often used in the middle and higher higher registers (except for the likes of an Ab), which he was playing in quite a bit. If they were faking it, they probably would have animated the 3rd value more often. I wonder how accurate the fingerings were. It looked pretty legit. I also wonder how many high schoolers will start decorating their trumpets like that. (just a guess) If he could play something like a trumpet like that and stay hidden, that would be an incredible flex. Also,Purson-kun's mother seems really fun. In fact, many of the parents of this show are pretty cool people

Only thing I’m struggling with now is trying to remember if I was actually caught up. Might have to watch/rewatch season 3. I think I watched it all before but it was prior to having Crunchy and was likely on some dubious site that no longer exists so no way to double check where I left off. I think I must have at least watched the first two seasons. Curse my pesky memory! Fun seeing several older shows coming back but having similar issues with others. I know for sure I watched Bookworm on Crunchy but for whatever reason none of the episodes are marked as shown. Guess there’s some kind of expiration on its tracking such things. (That one I at least feel confident I watched everything.) I hate when these services have as flawed of long term memories as my own. Anyhow I guess there’s no harm in watching the new episode then jumping back a bit for a refresher.

It took over three 2-cour seasons to finally get to this kid. And we get another solid, supportive mother character in the show. Also, I think it's funny how Iruma was longing to avoid standing out for most of season 1 and he had a classmate that had the ability down pat, and now Iruma has managed to convince him to stop avoiding standing out. Also, this coming out on Saturday mornings is perfect because this is like the perfect Saturday morning cartoon.

The Misfits are so adorable in this and so happy in the shot at the end of the OP. Agares is smiling, and it is just how much better Allocer looks with the main of hair than just that spikey spaced look he had in the first two series... and now we get Purson properly other than a where's wally extra... but then that would be an amazing book if it was ever to be made... AzzAzz being AzzAzz... glorious Diablo-level simping for the lead.

I'm more of a Clara simp but that shot of Ameri in the OP is testing me. Speaking of which, this might be my least favorite set of OP and EDs but it's kind of hard to top the season 1 OP and the EDs as a whole have all been pretty solid. This was a decent enough episode. Starts out by expanding on last season's cliffhanger before moving onto newer things. New guy doesn't stand out much but I get that that's the point. Maybe he'll break freee from the rules sooner or later. His om's very cute too. This episode was mostly meant to introduce him and get him involved and I'd say it's done a fine enough job of it. Now we can move forward with the real meat of things.
