As a further aside, Arakawa makes frequent references to Tezuka Osamus works in her mangas and interviews and absent/neglectful father's and loving adoptive father's are a common motif in Tezukas works. Most famously Astro Boys original brilliant father who literally sells him to a circus and the loving dr. Ochanomizu that becomes his mentor and surrogate father--astroboy is Hella dark for a cute looking shounen action lol. Arakawa seems to LOVE astroboy so thats probably where it comes from

tbh even if he never did for dera , he probably knew the mother wouldn't live much longer so he gave a passbook that he never used previously and his predecessor if he has the same skill set as dera probably planned his younger son to meet soon anyway so he is indirectly sending money to the older brother anyway to look after the younger brother. And he is also now in hiding from both clans while dera's case he was proper deadbeat.

Its that but also the women in this show namely Hana so far. Its the exact same type of humor and authority that women from her other works have. She's distinct from then all but she's got spunk like every other woman she's every written. When it came to the new child and Hana's change of emotions. I could see Winry doing the exact same thing if someone who she initially was apprehensive about offered her automail parts. Its the exact same humor and I love it.

I love the little pause Dera has in the middle of denying that Ken was his kid. He was definitely mentally running through a list of women he’d slept with and doing the math to double check that none of them could possibly be Ken’s mom. Also I like that the random middle aged housewife survived. I don’t think we even got a name for her but her general attitude and the way she was just like “Please stop talking, I don’t want to hear any more of this because it’ll just make me a target” cracked me up.

The fact that seeing Ken and hearing his name and Dera's first thought was he could actually be his 💀 Not entirely unrelated, but the Tadera bros not having one single photo of their father--as if that's gonna be an issue lol. Dera could simply ask around using his own mug or Ken's for that matter. Their dad's genes look particularly strong after all. If only they had a daemon of Gabriel's talents lmao

Hana-chan the gravedigger--what an omenous nickname, but after putting Yuru in a chokehold, I'm convinced she's one deadly femme fatale, perhaps a ninja even. Makes so much sense now why she's obsessed about marrying Jason Statham lol The Tadera family reunion will most certainly be an incredibly fun event. Maybe it would be emotional for Ken, but for Ryu--it sounds like he's the spitting image of his father personality-wise. Ken apologizing to Yuru for taking the more comfy bedding thinking he's the freeloader, when it's actually the other way around 💀

Things seem suspicious surrounding Ryu's father. He too has gone "missing", yet we know he's alive since he's depositing money in his son's bank account. But we know he must've been tailed by the Kagemori's for awhile since there were decayed bodies trapped in his "Lost House" daemon. He betrayed Higashi village by broking the twins parents and Asa out, supposedly "blackmailed by their mom". And now he's out of the picture. Definitely feel like there's more to his story.

..this show might be a 10/10 for me. And I don't give out 10/10s easily. Everyone, everyone , is so charming and unique. Funny, well written, and watching them grapple with domestic affairs while dealing with this clan-warfare daemon drama is actually quite entertaining. The protagonist is the best I've experienced in quite a long while - a reverse isekai is so rare, and it's handled incredibly well, with so much detail and care. Like, of course he prefers the flat futon. Of course he will bury the body of an enemy.

I love that few seconds of Dera going through his mental rolodex and having the realization that there's a possibility that Ken could be his illegitimate son. Turns out the kid is actually his estranged half-brother. I do wonder what's going on with Dera and Ken's dad. We know the dude is the one who taught Yuru and Asa's parents to escape and that he's still alive and well, considering he's still depositing money on Ken's account. I guess he's just in hiding because he made enemies of the Higashi village and Kagemoris? I think finding him might help them. I have a feeling the dude knows more about what happened to Yuru and Asa's parents.
