I also dont understand the con artists bank explanation. If the teacher doesn't hand over the 200 million he has in the bank vault he becomes 100 million in debt. He can then retrieve the money from the bank after the game is over, pay off the debt, and be 100 million richer. Why would he go to the bank on friday to get the money?
Afraid_Ambition_6410
But if fuzisawa wins and gets 200 million he needs to give 100 to LGT and Keep the other 100 with himself And nao will be in debt with 100 million You can't win 200 million you need to give the 100 to LGT and If you intentionally lose like ur suggestion  you will aslo have to give another 100 million as debt
Imalsome
原文
So to reiterate If he wins he has 200 million in cash and has to give his original 100 million back to LGT and he keeps 100 million. If he keeps all the money in the safe he goes 100 million into debt. The game is then over and he can take his 200 million out of the bank, pay off his 100 million debt to LGT and end up with 100 million. So theres literally no reason for him to pull the money out on friday and try to "keep it safe" till sunday. He can just keep it in the vault and pay off the debt later, he ends up with the same amount of money with no chance of the money being stolen by nao.

This is how I interpret it: >"If you have stolen game money from your opponent, you will be allowed to keep the excess. In other words, it is possible to win up to 100 million yen in this game." Key word there being "allowed" to keep the excess. Allowed is them giving you permission. Meaning it's their money, not yours, and they give it to you. That means while he stole it, they could just as easily not allow him to keep the other 100 million because he didn't win the game. And stealing is allowed as part of the game. If he didn't do it for the game (intentionally hiding it despite being able to win the game), then it could be treated as a criminal activity and he stole 100 million from Nao.

You can elevate an anime a lot with good animation even if its just "talking". Also its not the just the talking the models and direction are very subpar. For example when the teacher loses it and admits to betraying her it just looks goofy. Some examples of talking animes that got elevated by good animation and direction is any monogatari anime. Just to give a more specific examples the pool scene in recent chainsaw movie, the hakari talk in jjk. These are scenes that were just talking and have gone viral due to how well they were handled. Obviously these are extreme examples where they had a lof of budget, but its just to show you that just talking is not an excuse for every shot of anime to be the characters just talking in a still frame and 0 motion besides the characters faces.

Orb had animation well above average so I definitely wouldn't not say it's comparable. Sure, All of Yuzo Satou series has been Always outsourced at 100% since the last 20 years. But in overall i think he has became worse with the pass of the years. Maybe is a matter of the almost full outsourcing or because he works too much in long shows with very little time between series, but Satou has become very boring direction wise in the last years. Maybe is a good thing that here Asami Kawano is in a semi-dirtector position. And by worse i talk about direction skills, Kaiji, Akagi and One outs were all of them outsourced as much as his modern shows, but he seems kinda tired and in a automatic mode lately. I doubt that ten years ago it will have move more, but the atmosphere and direction i think that will have been a lot better. I disagree hard with orb, Orb was a partial outsourcing and there were some nice moments of good animation here and there(it has fantastic action scenes as strange it could seem at first since orb is a philosophical manga first), also it has very good photography direction (even with the night scenes) and backgrounds, and the direction even if was not really up to the source it has some good moments and storyboards here and there. Like i won,t ever put Kenichi Shimizu in a top ten of Madhouse directors but i felt he improved a lot in Orb, and given he has much more experience as an animator than a director i think he did it well enough. I think that is fair to expect more from Satou since he has far more experience and this is the gambling genre which he is supposed to be good at it.

I didn't think of that, but your theory gave me another one; They could pretend to be from the organization! Pretending to be the bank clerk would mean deceiving the bank as well, but pretending to be the representive just means showing up to his door step and asking for the money! (Though I suppose if they DO want to go for the bank thing, he could probably find a way to get hired, given he has a month! The problem is that he'd need a new identity - they wouldn't hire HIM - and using a false identity is a crime, so..!)

> and using a false identity is a crime Rules are simple, says: take your opponent's money by any means necessary. Part of the explanation says also "no action taken in the theft of the game money will be considered criminal" I think that Akiyama realizes that helping her get the money by any means doesn't mean he's committing any crime, something that he indeed was worried about. He also tells her that 'she' has to do whatever he says meaning that he probably will only advise her, I guess.

Couldn't resist yelling, "*you bloody idiot*" at Nao when she handed the money over to Fujisawa for '*safekeeping*'. She truly was honest to a fault. Granted, I could see why she trusted him which made it even more heartbreaking when she saw him with his mask off. Akiyama was mentioned to be a con-artist but the only specific crime linked to him so far was taking down a corrupt executive. Could he be similar to Robin Hood but with conning instead of plain thievery? That's perhaps why he accepted to help Nao. The 50% fee was just a bonus, or perhaps he's lying about that and he's ready to help her for free due to his morals. Plot twist: Seeing as he's a con-artist, it'd be hilarious if he intended to nick all 200 million yen and leave both Nao and Fujisawa in debt. Sure, Nao seemed like a gullible dumbfuck but this looked to be a golden opportunity for her to grow. With Akiyama guiding her, I wonder how she'd be by the end of this series. PS: I get Aqua had gone through a lot in his life, but to think he'd end up in jail.

She was way too naive and gullible taking everything Fujisawa said at face-value but I think being around her middle-school teacher she was basically just a kid again relying on an adult who was always there for her back then. It made the betrayal hurt even more. I think Nao being a genuinely sincere and good person is part of the reason he's helping her. He doesn't seem like he wants to commit a legit crime again/get arrested again, which is why the Liar Game suits his skillset without making him fall back into a life of crime, so he doesn't seem like a consummate criminal. A genius con man and a woman too honest for her own good in a game where the only "law" is whoever has money at the end of the game. What could go wrong?

But given the only crime we know he committed is crashing corrupt corporation, perhaps he DOES have morals, and wouldn't steal from an innocent! (Also it's risk-free for him; They win, he scores a bunch of money, they lose, he doesn't suffer any consequences!) Plus, if he can get rich by 'legally scamming/scheming', could be a dream for him! So NOT stealing from her could be an investment; Why pocket 150 million, when he can play the long game and win billions over time?

I thought this was fine. Animation didn't bother me, despite people seeming to be unhappy with it? I felt sorry for Nao, so it provoked some care for the characters, and it has room to make for an interesting story if the games are done well. That's really all I wanted, so happy enough with that. A show like this doesn't *need* god-tier animation, as that's not the point. I will keep watching.

I am actually positively surprised. From the trailers I assumed this to be one of those series where they are thrown into a series of weird games where they have to lie to win, but this might be way more straight forward. Just get the money from a person who suspects they will be robbed in the two day time period. I assume this means there will be a lot of prep work for the final "heist" to go well. Of course, there is the chance that something goes wrong during the heist, Nao doesn't get the 100 Mio back and we do get the aforementioned series of games, but knowing Trillion Game, that would be a bit of a different take. So I do suspect some actual showcases of scamming like in Trillion Game, but keeping it somewhat based in reality (as much as that works with the setup that tbf, is a bit contrived).

I think you are on the right track with the extreme honesty. Akiyama can basically tell her "do X" without actually telling her what the goal is and because she just trusts him, no one even suspects her of lying (because technically she is not lying). However, I would also not be surprised if the twist at the ending will be that Akiyama is trying to get the full 200 Mio for himself (so scamming Nao since stealing the money is not considered a crime) and Nao has to figure that out and has to actually trick him.

100 mill yen is around 626K USD for those wondering. Nao is honestly the last person who should have gotten that money. She’s honest to a fault and too naive. Look how easily she got tricked by her dear old sensei. One thing in wondering is if they’re able to get the money “by any means necessary” then isn’t physical harm or even murder on the table? If that’s the case, old man could just have a fall… For the first ep, this was good. Haven’t seen or heard the name “Liar Game” since that J-Drama like 15-20 years ago so it was nice to catch this adaptation. Keen to see how it plays out.

> Nao is honestly the last person who should have gotten that money. Makes me wonder if they were truly selected randomly, or if the organization picked her BECAUSE she's honest/naive (to have all kinds of players)! The fact that 2 of them know each other and live in the same vicinity, makes me think the 'random' possibility is unlikely. What would be the odds, unless there's thousands of players or something? >One thing in wondering is if they’re able to get the money “by any means necessary” then isn’t physical harm or even murder on the table? If that’s the case, old man could just have a fall… Yup, soon as they said that I instantly thought "...Violence?" The game obviously isn't MEANT to be solved with violence (they want it to be about deception and all that), but if there's no rule against it...

3 minutes into the episode, and she already lied to her dying father... **HONEST, MY ASS!** Love how they thought bringing back 100 yen is so childish, they asked how old she was! So our girl is honest to a fault! I wonder if they were truly selected randomly... Or if they picked good candidates for a game! (Some scammers/conmen, some honest ones, etc..) This bit alone tells us a lot about the game/the organization... They're at least some levels of evil! If they only gave the players an opportunity it would be more debatable (or if they registered them soon as they spend any amount of this money), but she didn't even do anything just yet, and they still forced her in! Any means necessary... Violence? It's meant to be a game of deception, lies, schemes and all that, BUT if they don't say anything against violence...? Go back to the cops, tell them the 100 yen was yours after all; You'll need everything you can get! Being honest is a virtue, but being so hopelessly naive, is a flaw! It's sad how honest people are so often naive, because they think others should all be like them... The sleep will be good, but the 'waking up' will be quite brutal.. Wait, why did the cops play along with that? Alright, I'll headcanon this as "They agreed just to get the reporters away"! Well, you won't get arrested unless you're bad at this, right? Honestly, at this point she could just hire some thugs to steal it from the teacher... (Unless there's some smallprints we didn't see against violence). I guess the issue is to get them to only take 100 million, and not the whole 200m! Hah, that's what I was saying... Honest is fine; Stupid is not! I sure hope he has a plan beyond that, otherwise he's just as stupid hah. Interesting to see the different perspective on this 'opportunity'; Some think "I'm saved!" because they think of the prize money, others think "I'm cursed!" because they think of the debt! Wait, there's something else they didn't consider... If he does NOT withdraw the money from the bank in time, he's gonna 'lose' the game and be 100 million in debt... Right? ..But then he can just withdraw it a day later, pay back his 100m debt, and still pockets HER 100m? Why is this not a good strategy? He only needs to withdraw it in time if he cares more about "winning the game" than he cares about money, but if he's smart he'll take the loss and pocket 100m... I wonder if they'll address that 'loophole' (that could completely ruin their strategy) Our boy got himself a good deal at least! No risk, all reward; If they fail, 'sucks to be her!' If they win, he gets 50m! I suppose the only 'downside' for him could be that perhaps the organization will forcibly register him in the game given he's involved, but I'm sure he can handle it! Well, that was a promising start! Some scenes are a little silly at times (like the scene at the lawyer), but other than that, it's quite interesting!

What if Constance Grail was paired up with Aqua Hoshino? Nao Kanzaki is a cute girl who is honest and sincere to a fault! The type of person who would turn in a coin at a police box at age 18 because it's the right thing to do. So of course one day she gets roped into the mysterious "Liar Game," where she ends up with tons of money and gets pitted against others to either keep, gain or be wracked in debt with the money. Nao isn't looking to get rich, all she cares about is taking care of her terminally ill father dealing with cancer. Her lawyer isn't really much help because he can't see much he can do with the situation she's in...though imagine having a lawyer whose best advice for a sketchy situation is to call in a "con man" for help. Thankfully for Nao her first opponent in the Liar Game...is none other than her middle school teacher Fujisawa! He was really there for her when he taught her, and she knows she can trust him, his advice, and with her money when he talks her into giving it to him. Of course, Nao is so honest to a fault, that when she even suspects Fujisawa for a second she feels guilty enough to visit his home to personally apologize...and overhear him raving about how he swindled her. Say it ain't so, Fujisawa-sensei! Left with no other option, Nao seeks the assistance of a con man...and a "genius con man," at that. Shinichi Akiyama (Takeo Ohtsuka!) exposed a corrupt company and has just finished his prison sentence, even if he's already conning people by tricking the newshounds into following someone else. It shows the kind of guy he is that he can be on good enough terms with the guards to get a uniform to help put on a show. He also has no interest of returning to life of crime or getting involved in Nao's situation, even if she won't give up on recruiting him. And as someone who is willing to stand around and wait hours for him when he tricks her to ditch her, the least he can do is remove some pick-up artists and here her out. Turns out Fujisawa was always kind of scummy when he received kickbacks for the class trips he would take students on, and how eventually getting reported ruined his life and drove his family away. He can't believe in anyone and he can't rely on anyone. It breaks Nao's heart, but Akiyama figures out the best chance for them to steal back her money. Now it's heist time.

Not a huge fan of this first episode. The setup felt too contrived for me to get absorbed into the story. The visuals are lacking but serviceable. Nao is stupidly honestly but what's wrong with that? though in her case it's not just being honest it's being insanely naive. Like not lying is good but that doesn't mean you gotta just listen and trust everything other people say. Like someone says if you stand in the rain for 5 days straight you'll cure your dads cancer and she'll actually do that. Being honestly etc is fine but you still gotta some logic and think you know? Still I really do hope we get to see her development. It's probably going to slow but still I want to see it. Overall not bad first ep. The art style probably going to put a lot of people off, and the animation quality is nothing to write home about but for this typeof show you don't really need to have crazy Sakuga or anything right so it should be fine? It's not like it's horribly animated either ngl better than I thought or maybe my expectations were just too low? I'm excited to watch more of this.

holy shit, this is terrible. It's like spending the whole day just sitting there and watching a mentally handicapped person stumble through a math problem. I can't. It's as painful as watching NTR.
CreZativity
Calling trusting people mentally handicapped sure is a choice...
Isekai_Dreamer
trusting is fine, but having no sense of self preservation means there is something wrong with her head.

Shouldn't Nao talk to the lawyer about if she intentionally lost the round, about being forced into debt because she never agreed to the game? That should be an easier to win lawsuit.
grizzchan
I wouldn't wanna gamble on justice in a situation like that.

Now she's playing the game, so it's more likely she'd lose eventually. Think the court case would be easier

Decent first episode I'd say
JMB_Smash
Tbf her main character trait is that she is super trusting no matter how many times she has already been betrayed, so i would say this fits.

This anime is about to be peak, especially the \[Liar Game\] >!contraband!< arc. I'm glad they kept the exaggerated wide mouths since it makes the reaction 10x better. Also, Yugo Kanno is cooking on that soundtrack.

Seems pretty mid honestly for an episode 1. Nothing crazy that draws me in. Definitely nowhere near as good as Tomodachi Game. Hopefully the next few episodes are good

The first game is a very basic premise.

I have waited for over 18 years to see this Adapted into an anime. Here is hoping that we get a physical manga release as well

I'd never heard about this series before. The manga is old but has high ratings, good reviews and this first episode was quite good. I'm hooked.

Sure looks like when watching right now, that's a big shame.

who is dr movie anyway does he have like a movie phd?
Twilight_2408
A korean animation studio for outsourcing, as far as I remember. Madhouse did the same with Trillion Games by outsourcing it to them and while there's Madhouse' name as the studio, they don't animate it, but the people at DR Movies does.

While most of this is accurate this is kind of like complaining that Squid Game couldn't possibly function with the logistics involved. It's fiction.

Tbf, it's very thematically appropriate that the Liar Game itself is a complete sham backed by scaring it's players into being unwilling to call it's bluff.
