Ok he’s proven himself and almost everyone wants him. Surely now I get him. No Elfie, he can’t produce his own magic he can try again next week. He can produce his own magic. As a reminder, they've previously established that the standard procedure here is for the graduate in question to choose which faction he or she would go to. The only reason we didn't already have that is Zeo shutting Will up to prevent that happening. Followed by Aron decided, no, rock-paper-scissors instead. It's pretty ridiculous that Aron doesn't uphold the rules of the tower itself. Either there's a particular reason he wants Will in the Lightning Faction - say, he thought that they would train him better and figured that Zeo would win rock-paper-scissors, or some sort of future sight - or Aron's a huge fraud. This is basically the moment when I completely lost immersion in the manga. It feels more like the author writing in yet another way to keep Will and Elfie apart, than any sort of naturally flowing plot.

The author wants them apart, but doesn't seem able to write it in such a way that it feels natural. Could have at least said 'you guys will be busy and wont be able to hang out all the time'. That's even implied already, to be honest. Lihanna has made it clear that the Lightning faction works people hard, and Elfie has Sarissa keeping her in line. Nope, got to double down on it.

Have Will willingly join the Zeo's faction in order to get stronger. It's as simple as that. Have the same scene with Elfie after where he explains his reasoning and give him some character growth. Just off the top of my head it could go something like this: "After the incident, I realized that I have to get stronger to protect you and everyone else I care about. I want to be with you right now but Zeo's faction is the best place for me to do this" Simple. But the thing is the author was too chicken to let Will voluntarily turn down Elfie so he contradicted his own writing in order to remove the decision from Will's hands. I literally said WTF when the old guy was like "rock paper scissors" is the only way.. like bro, yall JUST told me that in the case of a tie the candidate gets to chose.. LMAO. TBH I'm not surprised he did this, the author has an insane habit of doing this throughout the entire story in order to make things happen the way he wants despite actually creating scenarios where he wouldn't have to contradict himself and create plot holes. It's actually a special skill at this point lmao...

Totally agree. Establishing facts (students can choose one of the inviting factions) and then completely ignoring them when it suits the story... And then going even further to say they couldn't meet up like wtf... factions not being able to have exchanges like joint research, competitions etc. would be something plainly detrimental to growth of their members as they would get locked in only their own knowledge. Really arbitrary explanation used here - quite disappointed when the rest of the story had been soo awesome this far. Still gonna continue watching, but this really puts a damper on the mood for the final episode....

Yeah it’s really testing my patience and I’m not sure I’ll even watch season 3 at this point. The rules clearly stated that if multiple factions wanted someone, then they could pick who they wanted to go with, but all the other Magia Vander are just completely okay with that rule being flagrantly ignored? The idea any of them would be fine with setting the precedent that recruits can be stolen from other factions against their will is so absurdly fucking dumb that I just can’t take the writing seriously at all anymore. I’ve got plenty of problems with the romance in Danmachi, but at least there Bell and Ais getting together has been set up the whole time as a goal for the end of the story. In this, Omori keeps setting up the finish line and then inventing new dumb reasons to move it further back. It’s fucking exhausting. The man categorically refuses to write a story where the main couple actually gets together.

It was definitely wishful thinking to assume Omori might’ve actually learned from writing Danmachi and improved the formula somewhat. Tbf though, initially it did seem like he was trying to do it better this time around; Will and Elfie starting with a developed relationship is a direct fix to a lot of the problems with the romance in Danmachi. Turns out that was a one-off improvement though; he got better in that one way and worse in other ways. More than anything, the way he’s dragging it out is frustrating and unsatisfying to watch in a way that danmachi just isn’t. Danmachi sets 1 far off finish line and stick to it, but Wistoria starts with a goal in clear sight and keeps coming up with reasons to move the finish line whenever Will reaches it. Expected or not, it’s just not good writing; it doesn’t feel natural over the course of the story, it feels like Omori keeps forcing new obstacles because he refuses to let the chase end and change the story’s status quo.

It generally feels strange that there are rules around this anyway. What does not interacting accomplish? They are all in this together anyway. They are simply not antagonists. I get there is competition and all, but it's ridicolous that it wouldn't be possible for them to meet without any issue regarding their jobs in the tower. Even Eflie does (rightfully) have free time, although she slacks off anyway. But still. They are not prisoners.

This is basically the moment when I completely lost immersion in the manga. Author basically admitted this when they decided to restate the promise as being explicitly becoming Magia Vander and seeing the true sky. Which I would be okay with, if he didn't slip in this completely asinine rule that factions aren't allowed to mingle. This makes literally no sense. What are multus supposed to do? Do they really think it makes sense to keep Will in one faction the entire time? He can use every element. I shouldn't think about the brain off anime so hard, but it's nearly impossible to ignore when its so glaring LMAO.

I believe the author mentioned in one of his tweets that if Finn had his way, him and Will would go on a journey to conquer the dungeon and train his sword skills. The Magia Vander also often go to the dungeon; we saw Aron and Finn in the dungeon in season 1, and Zeo also heads there often. So what would Elfie do about Finn and Will's dungeon journey? Probably become the Magia Vander's dungeon expert the instant she finds out about it. I'd watch that spin-off, honestly! Rather than Will and Elfie trying to get to the top of the tower together, they instead try to get to the bottom of the dungeon together.

It's pretty annoying that they set Finn up as the only one who actually knows what the fuck is going on with Will's powers and they clearly had this split in the Magia Vander (who, as essentially God-Kings of this world are stupidly important and need to remain if not friendly than at least neutral with each other) this would have been the perfect chance for Finn to make his presence known and be like "Alright, if you kids can't get along Daddy Finn is gonna have to step in and send you to your rooms. The Sword-Boy is coming with me to the Dungeon for his training arc." That's what better than some Rock, paper,scissors shit that I would expect to see in an abridged anime and not the actual show.

Wouldn’t blame her if she nuked the whole tower But the Author just wants will to climb the tower in the most straightforward boring way possible while following all the rules until they kill God or whatever. And he's also aware the only plot hook the audience gives half a shit about is them getting together, so he'll keep teasing that and cock blocking them. It's even more exuasing because anytime Will faces adversity he just turns on hax and wins, so none of that can be compelling. But hax don't work for the main hook because the show would end. So you have increasing contrived and boring reasons nothing outside the main plot is relevant, and increasingly contrived and boring reasons the main plot can't be progressed. It's so annoying.

The whole thing about them both becoming Magia Vander is based on a childhood promise to see the real sunset. Does Will actually need to become a Magia Vander to see real sunset? no. As others have said, the best way for Will to improve is to learn from every faction. The whole societal rigidity needs to be overhauled. Zeo clearly doesn't buy into the societal dogma & Aaron has some secret why things must stay as they are. Most likely Aaron's secret will be another contrivance.

You could say that it's much better for Will to join Zeo to get stronger. But the anime doesn't frame it that way, nor does it give you any reason to care. The last major conflict came in the city attack, not long after Wills friends learned they could buff Will. Instead of capitalizing on that will just turns on hax mode and auto wins. Even training with Julius was pointless as that was solved by deus ex machina. This god damn show would be better if it ended with two episodes of them shaboinking just so the author can't lean on cockblocking and would actually have to make the audience care about anything else.

It's even worse than this yet so many keep apologeticizing for these contrivances. I've seen these scenarios far too many times to keep buying into them. Fundamentally, creators love using medieval times to exploit the extra dogma for easier conflict. The Wistoria society sabotages itself by thriving on elitism, anti-non-mage bigotry & such when it should be looking into everything possible to fight the invaders. The Magia Vander are expected to work together but the tower factions (including research faction) rigidly avoid each other. Competition is good but this just promotes pointless toxicity. Whatever reason Aaron is hiding for the rigid divisions is most likely going to be as contrived as we've already seen.

I mean really fuck this , once i saw its rock paper scissors and ofc Elfie losing i stopped the episode. Author is pulling all the bullshit to keep these two from being together. Sadly a good series that has become annoying . I hope 3rd season is canceled

There’s not a huge difference between Elfie and the horror premise of Obsession, which is part of what makes Elfie funny and Obsession terrifying. Anyway… what I am trying to say is: Do you really wish that? I would not. Let’s not even talk about maybe stalking him with a genderbent ice clone. Will is probably her perfect match because he has superhuman patience, diligence, and denseness that exceed even standard ideal anime male romantic lead levels. It lets them be sweet together beyond the bounds of logic.

I've been bombed for saying this before, but yeah, Elfie is... crazy. She's not in love with Will, a healthy and wholesome relationship, but they have this... obsessive toxic co-dependency that hurts both of them. We've been repeatedly told that the Tower is the one thing standing between this world and Armageddon, and the Magia Vander are at the front lines of that eternal war. We have been shown no information, whatsoever, counter to this. But Elfie doesn't take this seriously: the only thing she cares about is Will. Worse, she is willing to make an enemy of the entire Tower just to get to Will. She's may well have killed Zeo or died in the process. And again, She is one of 5 people that stand between this world and ruin. Her selfishness even surpasses Zeo! ZEO! As even that Barbarian is committed to saving the world. He only challenged Oldman King Dude because he thought the geezer was being complacent in preparing for Armageddon... and then he immediately backed down when given a satisfactory answer. Elfie threatens the man leading the "save the world" efforts because she wanted to go help her boyfriend, and she only backed down when Will locked in and no longer needed her help. That's crazy. And let's not forget all the times she's casually talked about creating spells to 'keep Will from running away from her," tried to kiss him while he was sleeping, the whole "Rosti in the bath with him," and just generally doesn't respect Will's boundaries or agency as a person. Up to the point she accused him of "choosing" to be with Zeo over her! While he didn't fight the issue, he only did that because Elfie would have self-destructed otherwise! She comes across as "Chaotic Neutral" on the classic DnD alignment chart. These characters are the selfish and disruptive ones that don't care what gets broken or who gets hurt as they chase after their desires. And worse, Elfie comes across as not just selfish, but grossly immature. I know she's just ~15, and Will is the only "family" this orphan has, but she is just extremely unbalanced and disruptive. At multiple times, Elfie's aide, Claire, and the other Magia Vander treat Elfie as a bomb they have to diffuse. Because she is willing to self-destruct over selfish desires. The focus of the narrative is on Will growing strong enough to stand by Elfie, but she needs a whole TON of emotional maturity before she is ready to stand by Will.
