As soon as Aoteru entered the hall, the episode was over before I could even blink. That's how immersive each and every episode truly is. Aoteru's talk-no-jutsu is on a-whole-nother level. The man opens his mouth and even tho one has long decided that the conversation is over, they just can't help but listen anyway. Tsune is living his best life FR. I just love how he views Aoteru as someone who's clearly beneath him and yet, much like everyone, he just can't help but buy into what the silver tongued merchant is selling, skeptical as he may be.

Tsune-chan-san's segment is so funny because he's just acting like a massive tsundere in his head. He may try to deny it, but he believes so much on Aoteru. I mean, this man was supposed to have a date night but here he is, unconsciously making provisions for his travel to Fukui on Aoteru's orders. Speaking of women, the lipstick mark on one of his cups in the previous episodes were a great but easy to miss detail and it looks like he's really getting around😂. This marks Taira and Aoteru's first meeting since Saki's death and I have to commend the latter's self-restraint in that moment. And of course Taira would also choose to behead someone at the same time while bringing Saki to the conversation to mess with Aoteru's head. This is exactly what makes him scary, because he's intelligent enough to know what would drive a person to the edge. Worse still, that it's coupled with his unchecked power that no one could do anything about it. I do wonder what the plan is with Aoteru suggesting the withdrawal and sending Asama to Fukui. Denki is one such character that while truly despicable, (unforgivable for Saki's untimely death) I just can't help but view as a necessary evil. Seii army doesn't seem as disciplined as Yamato's, so even if the war council sees through it they may be unable to stop the fall. Eh, I don't think he's hearing him out from personal principle. As powerful as Denki is, there must be a reason he still bothers with all the song and dance and ceremony instead of just calling the shots as he sees fit. His power may not be completely consolidated yet. He probably calculates that he can't simply behead Aoteru without incurring unwanted consequences. Even so, Aoteru is definitely on thin ice, and he's gonna have to use his Speech 100 skills to get what he wants out of this meeting without losing his head, because 100% Denki slimes him as soon as he sees the chance. If he sees him as a threat that is. If he on the other hand, underestimates Aoteru, he may calculate that he can let him talk if killing him would be more trouble than it's worth, as long as Aoteru's offenses don't cross a certain line. In my opinion the truth lies somewhere in between, since how much Denki wants to have Aoteru killed, and thus the resources he is willing to commit and risks he is willing to assume to do it, depends on how much a threat he thinks he is. Aoteru isn't dead yet simply because he doesn't yet think it's worth the trouble, simple as. It's certainly not because Denki is interested in hearing out a different idea. I don't believe he has any greater ideals or ambitions. Power is the object of power.

Seii's new strategy is reminiscent of what went down when Napoleon's Army invaded Russia Before Napoleon, the Russians also used a scorched-earth retreat against King Charles XII of Sweden during the Great Northern War (1708–1709). After Napoleon, they used it in both world wars against the Germans, which might be the most famous examples. Basically, the story has ended the same way for any powerful opponent who has advanced on Russia. I don't see it working as well in this situation, however. Russia had the numerical advantage in all of the formerly mentioned wars. After initial victories, it was of utmost importance for all of them to make Russia surrender as fast as possible so that they could not recover. Here, Yamato seemingly has the advantage in both weaponry and numbers. Yamato can live with another stalemate while waiting for the weather to get better.

Seeing Kaku in such a bad condition is so sad, but even sadder to see how concerned Ryuumon was. I'm glad Kata will be able to do something about it, but I'm sure Kaku will still push himself more than he should to help Ryuumon. It was nice to see this side of Ryuumon too, that little moment where he clears a bit of Kaku's hair from his face was sweet.  I did find it funny how Kata was patting the area on Ryuumon's back where the arrow Wajima shot hit lol.  It's exciting to see Aoteru handle these fools, I like how he turns what they say against him and with such firmness. It was amusing to see him laugh with the council, and then they look at him confused.  Yoshitsune should just be more honest with himself lol. He's passing on his favorite girls to do what Aoteru asked, he believes he'll make it happen, he's not choosing to.

I'm glad Kata will be able to do something about it, but I'm sure Kaku will still push himself more than he should to help Ryuumon. I was under the impression that Kata, the doctor, lied and gave Ryumon the answer he wanted to hear to help ease his mind so as he'd focus on his own recovery. Ryumon's short soliloquy about waiting and seeing what Aoteru does with the ball now on his court was basically him telling the viewers that they've done their part (for the time being at least). I mean, I don't really expect to see them in the next episode at all as the focus shifts to Aoteru's exploits.

When I first started this show I was really captivated by Aoteru's conversations with the military officers and thought the whole show would be like that... needless to say I was a bit disappointed seeing him take a back seat throughout most of the season and while still good, this episode reminded me of what really captured my attention in the first episode and can only hope it continues within this direction

It does make sense though as he is only a smaller player in a larger war conflict and not yet at the top of the food chain to be at the center of everything. Even Taira as the main antagonist took a back seat for the middle parts as well, to flesh out the opposing side with Wajima rather than leave them as one dimensional characters for them to fight against, but instead given more nuance. I'm glad they actually showed the other veteran characters at the top instead of quickly killing them off/sidelining them just to force Aoteru into his role much faster. Those veterans having some time as their own characters, not just plot devices to prop up the MC. I value the direction it went with that more in the long run than the instant gratification of Aoteru being faster at the center. It was about setting the larger stage for him than forcing him there without much of stage even yet set.

Hopefully, this gets multiple seasons because this will make his taking the backseat so much more worth it in the future once he rises to being a strategist. It's been a while since a show made me trust its slow-burn storytelling, and it did by making everyone very fleshed-out characters. I am happy Sei isn't a faceless one-note villainous army but rather, another side to all the conflict who have their own ambitions and dreams, which will make their defeat all the more bittersweet in a way.

The creator Ikka Matsuki has been suffering from a high fever for the last 2 weeks due to topical steroid withdrawal (red burning skin syndrome) and has been tweeting from his bed while wrapped in bandages. The guard displays this very same attitude toward Aoteru when he calls him "trash" and a "commoner." Like Mūton's story of shooting a bear in the eyes, he claims he once defeated a giant bear in a life-or-death battle barehanded, but the truth is unknown. Yasuke Hei spent his youth on the battlefield with his older brother, Daikichi. FWIW: this character is based on an IRL guy named Taira no Kiyomori. And he was someone who, while dying in bed, did so in the middle of a war that he started that led to the downfall of his entire clan. Reports of his death say he had a fever that was so high, that anyone who attempted to get near him would get burned by the heat. An obvious exaggeration, but one made to underscore that he died a miserable death.

Taira should've beheaded her for the sole offence of being annoying. Disgusting. Also looks like Taira remembers Aoteru and what he did to his wife... Aoteru has the patience of a saint. I'd lose my mind and try to attack him and end up dying. And is it just me or did Taira's concern for Tonotsugu not sound genuine at all? Once again. This episode felt really short. Idk what magic this production team is casting but it never misses the mark at entertaining me. I need someone to do a masters thesis on why this anime is so captivating like wtf

She's doing exactly what Taira wants. If Aoteru wasn't able to handle her points, then Aoteru would have been disgraced and silenced, allowing Taira to gain control of the army without dissent. Instead, Aoteru deftly handled her accusations, amusing Taira. >is it just me or did Taira's concern for Tonotsugu not sound genuine at all His plan was to let Tonotsugu fall into the trap, and then use the trap as evidence of Ryumon's incompentence / have him take responsibility for Tonotsugu's death. Instead, Ryumon avoided the full extent of the trap, and Kaku's thinking allowed Tonotsugu to survive. Even still, Taira can use what did happen to bludgeon Ryumon (as he does this episode)

Who would have thought that Kaku would be in more danger at the start than Ryuumon? Hopefully he can recover because it would be a notable loss if they lost him. It probably stresses how much he was pushing himself as Ryuumon executed his plan against Wajima. Much like with episode 1, Atoeru is using what people say in his favor. Having to outwit Taira will be tough. Retreating is definitely far from what they suspect, but I am curious what his argument will be.

Peak episode as always, Aoteru's way of speaking is just making you glued to the screen. Anyone would wish to be that eloquent when expressing yourself. The episode ending on Aoteru's eyes on fire means one thing for sure: Bro understood it all. And I think that he requested the withdrawal of reinforcments precisely because he predicted Seii's winter strategy. Not only that, but he also found the biggest flaw to Seii's strategy: the lack of information. Seii's plan goes like this: a part of the army is doing a siege where Ryuumon is located at. Another part will go kill general naganime and his troops at Fukui yamato reinforcments arrive seii retreats back to their advantageous habitat (while evacuating the civilians AND destroying the villages during their journey) they destroy the exhausted troops from Yamato's reinforcements. By withdrawing the troops, Seii will enact their plan on something entirely useless. Because they'll attract no soldiers in Seii's snowy capital. Therefore, there will be no massacre, just 50 thousands Seii soldiers going back to their home peacefully. There's still a possibility that Seii understands that there will be no reinforcment coming. However, their plan works only if they're WAY ahead the yamato troops coming to Fukui. In order for Seii's strategy to work, they will need to mobilize the 50K soldiers in Fukui early kill naganime and his soldiers early. So, by the time the 50K soldiers will be at Fukui, fighting Naganime, it'll be too late for the 50K soldiers to come back again into Yamato's territory. Even with that explanation, there is still a question that lies within: how could Aoteru Misumi deduce their Winter strategy plan ? I think it's rather simple. The situation is still: - 60k seii soldiers inside an unknown land VS 100K soldiers available (with fortresses , castles etc...)in their motherland. Seii was able to make such great moves precisely because the soldiers weren't used efficiently ( Isn't that right, Denki Taira and his son ? ). The second reinforcments arrive, no matter how well they had been performing, the battle will be long. And Seii won't have enough ressources to keep going (compared to Yamato that has lots of foods and shelters). So, the only way to kill as many soldiers as possible is to either : weaken them make sure there aren't used to their maximum potential. The first option was already done by isolating 30K soldiers, using Yamato's political instability. But now, this option won't work. Therefore, the can only weaken them. And the only way to weaken them is by taking their food, shelters, stability inside their homeland. Which is what the Winter strategy is doing. Using Seii's horrendous conditions to weaken the soldiers and kill them one by one. If Aoteru had that in mind, it isn't far-fetched to assume that he deduced the winter strategy AND found their weak spot. In short, Seii designed a trap for an exhausted foreign army deep in hostile territory. Without Yamato's reinforcements, the strategy is rendered useless. Which is precisely what Aoteru's executing with that silver mouth of his.

Anddd so what if all of that is true, so Aoteru actually wants Taira to lead reinforcements, get stomped, and come back with his tail between his legs disgraced. But to do that, he needs Taira to think sending reinforcements is not what Aoteru/Ryuumon wants. And then somehow, I'm not sure yet how, Aoteru convinces Taira that sending Tsune off on some little jaunt (maybe unbeknownst to Taira to meetup with that one disgraced general from earlier episodes) is actually Aoteru accepting "scraps" and not really getting what Aoteru/Ryuumon wants (even though it is what he wants). Then the end result of everything is Taira thinks he himself is choosing to send reinforcements against the will of Ryuumon's clique to steal glory and his top military leader position. If Aoteru just agreed with everything then Taira may become suspicious, so Aoteru can only get what Aoteru wants by convincing Taira that Taira is getting what Taira wants and not what Aoteru/Ryuumon wants... And then maybe just maybe, this allows for big enough unavoidable damage to Taira's stature to secure Ryuumon's faction's military control at the very least and maybe even to usurp Taira's unilateral control of the ministers by showing Taira's weaknesses. Yea idk, maybe I'm just confusing myself lol.
