The very public life of a family of assassins. I mean, the fact there is a main family, branch family, bug clan, needle clan, etc = there's a whole underground society with traditional hierarchy. I'm just poking fun at the main conflict being incredibly easy to solve with a slight ounce of outside the box thinking. Sure, but the author is clearly emphasizing how Japanese-style traditional family pressure and duties can get in the way of personal freedom - remember, there's a main and branch family, so it's super traditional. Duty to family above all, which must look a certain way. Traditional = a man and woman married, usually for family duty (e.g. chosen for bloodline/status/power/business connection), love not necessary, with kid(s) preferably at least one male. Unspoken rule for those arrangements is that you can have a lover on the side, but they aren't considered family and it must be discreet. Whatever discussions she had with granny, Akari felt there was no acceptable compromise and she would rather break up with her GF. It's nice that you're trying to think of possible solutions in such a dilemma to satisfy everyone (or compromise where Akari isn't happy?), but it doesn't quite matter how "obvious" the solution might be if it's coming from the POV of a more socially-free society where certain options are more accepted. Until the author possibly brings the family to accept personal freedom/agency/happiness of their grandchildren as part of the story, the traditional views are the backdrop of the conflict. It doesn't matter if you think it's stupidly easy to solve if they gave it a bit more thought, because these views still exist today in different forms (including upper echelon Japan). The degree of pressure is implicitly understood by the intended Japanese audience, so it doesn't need to be expounded on, like this long-ass response ended up being. Anyway, I'm not here to go in depth on cultural differences and how marriage, family duties and maintaining face are treated, right or wrong, IRL or fiction. My dude, you really think the story will be about the MC meeting 100s of women through dating apps and the like until he gets someone? And not, you know, about how, while they help each other, get to know one another better and develop feelings through that? The show was fine telling the audience that the sister should be with the person she loves and not someone to get a child with. But they will not do the same for the MC?

I know 🥀 There just has to be a better way if biological heirs are needed! Maybe a long list relative? Sperm/egg donor with ethical surrogacy? Which I don’t think I’ve seen anime adaptations have the latter before, and I have no idea what Japan’s stance on that whole practice is, but that’d be pretty cool. If this does turn into a BL story Granny also being gay but forced to have kids because of the times she lived in would not surprise me at all. I would not complain if it does turn into a BL story, just the entire reason he's doing this is to save his sister from being forced to break up with her GF so that would feel like a weird twist. I do think it will lead to him questioning his sexuality at points at a minimum though.

I mean, tearing down the whole system to be with the person you love is totally a sensical plot structure, and isn't really a weird twist. Like, clearly the grandmother is a villain of the story (you don't get to threaten a woman with forced impregnation and not be). Yes, he got pushed into it by his grandmother threatening his sister, but listen to what he actually said he wanted in the episode. He wanted a normal life and a normal relationship, he just never thought he could have that.

That's how it often goes, but there may be a tiny little problem in this case... He's not looking for a partner just for fun, the ONLY reason he wants to get married is to get an heir... Something that seems very unlikely to happen with these two hah. (And if they adopt 'an heir' and pretend it's theirs, well he could've done so with a 'pretend wife' as well!)

It is the thing that pushed him, but actually pay attention to what he is saying: He wants to have a normal relationship but thinks he is incapable of having one. All that stuff about "oh its easier to be alone" is him lying to himself to not have to think too hard about what he actually wants.

Part of the plot involves the sister potentially being forced into marriage, and thus breaking up with her partner so she can give birth to continue the lineage. Right, I'm saying that's dumb. The goal seems to be to get her to have kids. The implication so far is that they do not care too much about the "stock" of the partner, because they seem willing to let the brother hook up with anyone he wants, so long as he produces heirs, so it's not an "arranged marriage" situation in which she must produce children by a certain person for it to "count." So if the goal is for her to produce children (however much you might disagree with that being a goal, it is one that both she and her family seem willing to accept), then there's no reason whatsoever for her to break up with her girlfriend. She can still be in a romantic relationship with her girlfriend, AND produce a child via artificial insemination (or a little elbow grease if they must keep it traditional), but there's no reason to believe that "marriage" would need to be involved, much less a dedicated male partner.

Meanwhile, Gero’s a highly-skilled assassin but a failure at everything else. He was pretty smooth when he bridal-carried Kinosaki at the end! He's only a failure when he's NOT in a tense situation! That took some serious dedication to take months building up the taster’s immunity. I was talking about this in another comment, but this reminded me of a certain western book series for which many readers theorize that someone is doing precisely that to prepare for an upcoming poisoning... (I wonder how common a plot that is!)

I should have seen it coming but wasn't even trying to think that far ahead. And now we get the real version of Mei. Man. Our boy is a fucking monster holy shit. And this show is going to be dumb as hell but sweet at the same time if this episode is anything to go by. Seems could be a really fun ride, def want to give it at least a few more episodes but I can see it surviving cut downs. WUT. Well that was a fucking surprise. HAHAHA his pickup line. Gero is hopeless. This is going to be fun to watch develop oh my god. The music during the car scene is bumping as fuck. This anime knows exactly what it is doing and rides and dies with it. I fucking love it.
