While the animation isn’t on par with industry giants, I wouldn’t say it’s lacking compared to other shows with a similar budget. There are a lot of moments with actual movement where other shows would probably settle for still frames, especially when it comes to magic and fight scenes. But I agree that the art style and retro feel really elevate it all, even in moments with less animation. Point being, I feel like the studio really went above and beyond with what they had, just like in the first season.

He and Clev are two sides of the same coin. Clev was directly called out for just acting out because there was nothing better to do and his idea of something better to do was to capture a baby and raise him as a kid, presumably due to Shinzo Abe's voice ringing in his head to reproduce and have children. My guess is Vordin's answer was revive a legendary hero and fight him to the death for a challenge

Yeah, I don’t know if bored is the right word, but we do know that basically every aspect of the world from Heroes, to Regalia, to Dark Beasts, to simply the size of the world is just a shitty downgrade from the old world. Just realizing that last season made Clevatess basically fall into depression and give up temporarily. Imagine what it must feel like for someone who’s lived through the entirety of this age. If you lived through the Disney Renaissance and now every movie released were the worst MCU kind you’d desperately want things to change too.

The show seems to be framing the current world as a story. Everyone is a character that must play their part. But these are sentient beings and the longer they live the more they realise they aren't just their roles. The human desire to expand the world is an outlet for the desire to break free from the shackles of the roles each character is forced to play. But for the dark beast lords and dark beasts they are forced to live lives opposite of that desire to "break free" and they live far longer than humans giving them more time to realise this. So the hero legend exists to "reset" the dark beasts from time to time before they can learn how to break free of their roles. It just so happens that this time enough dark beasts survived without being reset long enough to all start to break free of their shackles. And I think this is supported by this episode where Clevatess discusses the nature of the Books of Toah and the Dark Beast Lord domains. There are 4 Books of Toah. Each is a fragment of the human hero legend. All kept far apart and isolated from each other. There are 4 Dark Beast Lords each with their own domain and something within their domain granting them power. Whatever it is in their domain is of the same nature as the books of toah and likely are the mirror to the hero's legend. The Books of Toah take forms other than just physical books (see the forge) and compel humans to play their roles. The Dark Beast Lord domains are physically constrained but it's not been ruled out that they aren't just taking a form like the forge. And Dark Beast Lords must rely on them to retain their power just like the humans must rely on the books/forge/etc for theirs. And the "nature" of dark beasts incentivises Dark Beast Lords to avoid travelling to each other's domains just like the books of toah being kept in separate human nations all with some level of rivalry and suspicion of each other. So my guess is that unifying the books will allow Vordin to produce a true hero with the unified power of toah. That true hero can then unify the domains of the Dark Beast Lords. And since Dark Beast Lords can use the power of the books as well my guess is that the power of Toah and the Dark Beast Domains must be unified to restore a true humanity capable of being completely independent from the roles of this marionetted story world and therefore being able to travel out beyond the "edge of the world"/outside of the story that's been written for them. But all of this is also just a giant stream of consciousness of ideas on how the show might progress.
