The mirror world flashback sequence was phenomenal. I loved how Alicia's eye scar symbolized where she wavered in her determination and the moment she regained it. I love how it all happened in a snowy world and the solution to it was the familial warmth she remembered and took back to her heart. The scene transfer where her dad swung the rake and it changed back to his sword. The emotional music... everything was perfect, down the crazy mirror lady having her smirk wiped off her face! And then she tried to cancel the trial so it wouldn't give Alicia the power-up, I wonder how successful she was with that. But I definitely hope she wasn't haha.

You're on point with everything you said. Everything from the story to the cinematography was amazing this episode! That scene where the rake turned into a sword while the scenery changed so smoothly actually gave me goosebumps. I also really hope that Alicia gets the second power-up. It would be so frustrating if she was permanently robbed of that just because the evil princess decided it.

Even when inside an evil illusion, Honestly, as fucked up as it was, the mirror and its illusions were neutral. They didn't twist Alicia's father or mother into something they weren't. They presented them in full honestly as a challenge for Alicia to overcome. It's a fucked up test and Evil Milea was using it for evil, but the source itself isn't evil.

Yeah, it was definitely very nice of Evil Milea to let Alicia have the opportunity to see her parents once again in this episode , even if only for a short while and they weren't real. It reminded me of Re:Zero's 2nd season, with how Subaru could meet his parents once again and say goodbye thanks to Echidna's trial.

I'd wager that they were reflections of their spirits or some such fantasy nonsense, and since Alicia was inside of the mirror instead of just being reflected by it she was able to interact with those reflections. The Twins speech about mirrors only reflecting the truth was probably intended to be a subtle clue that the reflections of her parents were in fact her real parents. The evil princess even stated that she can't manipulate what happens inside that mirror world, which would make sense if the mirror world was intended to only show you what's real. In addition, she also said that rejecting the illusion also wasn't the right answer which makes a lot of sense if it's a reflection of the truth, you would be rejecting reality.

I can get behind this. The trial for her was not to defeat her father, but to be trapped until her death and accept the happy life that she is experiencing. Good thing that she really grew up with a loving family, so she was able to accept that they are actually gone, and moved on. The mirror showed her family love, but she actually experienced that love, there is no disconnect with the truth and she passed the trial.

If you think about it Alicia and Subaru are quite similar in some ways. They both try to help out the people around them. They both have the mental fortitude to go thru extreme pain and bodily harm to achieve their goals. They both strive to be a hero, in their own a way. [Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Movie/Season] Both Alicia and Tanjiro are given the comfort of reuniting with their dead loved ones, and they both briefly forget about their missions. In the end, they both have to fight the temptation to stay in their illusions in order to move on and wake up. [Re:Zero Season 2] Counting Re:Zero as well, this is the third time this kind of plot device has moved me to tears. But I think Re:Zero takes the cake in terms of emotional depth.

I'm so glad this is slated for 13 episodes and not 12, not that I wouldn't prefer 30 of course. This has really grown into one of my favourite shows. Alicia is overcoming her trials one after another, so Mahou Shoujo better watch out. She's got her mother's legs after all. As for Klen - he doesn't look in as strong a position, but I can't see this show being renamed to Vordin so I'm looking forward to the final showdown. The twins have really grown on me, and every week with Naie is a good week.

I like how they don't need to spend an entire episode giving background to the characters, a few shorts here and there and the got me to care about most characters. The twins small background story made so much sense and how they are an active part of the plot that it won't get lost on 1 or 2 episodes where most of the time these side characters just exist to further the plot in the most weird ways.

This is a great point. When we talk about characters "needing development" in other shows, or we don't care that they died because they just didn't have any substance, this is all it takes. It's concise, doesn't drag on, comes up when relevant, and Boom - character developed. This show is very well written.

Three things stand out for me in this episode. Good Animation Sound Effects are on point. Alicia's Mother was incredible with her legs, she made her dad pass out between them. Nevertheless some things could be improved... Considering this is a Magical Girl Anime. There was very little screentime for the Hot Evil "Princess".

Alicia has become one of my top dark fantasy main characters of all time, I love her to bits. She's strong but still struggles and ultimately prevails against adversity, she's smart in battle and yet a meathead outside of it, and it also helps that she's hot as fuck.

How well written and compelling the most of the characters are is easily the part of the series that most impressed me. I feel like most if not all of the cast could’ve easily been bungled into being far less interesting. It really feels like a show where the character writing has no right being as good as it is.

I feel like I end up repeating myself every week with how much I praise Alicia’s character. Like you said she’s written very “well balanced” for a main character. She manages to feel strong but still struggle in combat and feel intelligent but not an all knowing genius or even booksmart in general. The story isn’t afraid to brutalize her and make her overcoming the struggles feel that much more earned. And yes, she manages to be all of this while being one of lowkey hottest characters of the season and maybe the entire year.

Sometimes a character needs to have their powers taken away from them to show the real reason why they're a badass. As Tony Stark once said: "if you're nothing without the suit, you shouldn't have it." Alicia had her metaphorical suit taken away from her this season and definitively proved why she deserves it.

Now that you put it into words it makes more sense 😆. Since the latest revelations and details they have been giving about Heroes i started to feel similarities with other heroes stories and one of them is Arthur. Getting a sword from the lake as a way to demonstrate your will to become a hero and save the people in the small world before expanding it. It surely feels heroic.

The best part is in that story's system Alicia's story is so strong that she would still probably end up as an undead by Clevatess somehow. Especially if Black is not aware of the possibility. In fact Black killing her the first time just made everything worse for him lol.

Eh, IIRC that wouldn't really make things worse for Black, as Alicia wouldn't be able to come back as an undead through a heroic story. Neutral/Evil would have a pretty large claim on her, unless some framing was done to have the resurrection be holy/healing. Would also presumably mean Black leaves her alone afterword. Not only is it potentially 1/3 a loss for Alicia, but shes also seemingly pretty pragmatic. Despite the circumstances Alicia is pretty chill working with Clevetass and doesn't seem to have a strong opinion on societal wrongs other than just helping people. Without the heroic narrative she doesn't seem like a troublemaker.

I could see the argument for just watch/observe whilst keeping her life as normal as possible. But to me her backstory just comes off as so giga extra hero that she would be a ticking time bomb if left alone.

If I recall correctly he mentions that he can't heal a completely destroyed or missing body part. Her eye was probably completely destroyed in the original fight. Although with the way he patched up the wet nurse with troll bodyparts, he probably could take someone else's eye and put it in alicia lmao
