IIRC Carlo Sen, the author, specifically requested Studio Nut, the animation studio, to not draw Tanya too cute as he didn't want the series to be seen as a CGDWC - Cute Girls Doing War Crimes show and glorying war and violence. Studio Nut did a balancing act by making Tanya's facial expressions twisted enough to horrify viewers, without making her too cartoonishly unattractive. As Rerugen says, she's a demon in the skin of a blonde loli. Yuuki Aoi then nailed it by bringing out Tanya's evil charm.

Considering the art style is wholly original to the anime and so is the name it's just there to make you think Tanya is more sinister than she is. The reality is their Commanding officer is basically telling the entire military to go die for no reason because he knows and ADMITS they've lost but refuses to stop fighting anyways. Their CO is literally trying to get them all killed and somehow them killing him to save all their own lives and the nation is somehow being spun as if its evil.

You know shit’s really bad when they’re opening up conscription to volunteers who were previously ineligible. You’re a hop, skip, and a jump away from arming children and the elderly. And yet, the grizzled old bastard Rudersdorf’s still trying to secure victory for the Empire? Zettour and Tanya are devious mfers but they gotta do what they gotta do for the survival of the Empire. But if I’m understanding this correctly, are there now actually two independent plots to take the man out? One from the Allies and the other from within? If that’s the case, that’s going to be very interesting….

Of course it's going to go sideways. While I have no idea what the final outcome will be, I’m 100% sure Tanya is going to end up with a massive headache, lol. After all, there are just too many players on the board at the same time, each with a different agenda: Tanya and her unit , aiming to assassinate Rudersdorf Drake and his unit (meaning Mary Sue is bound to show up), who want the same outcome but with the added challenge of keeping their involvement completely under wraps The Federation mages , who will just happen to be caught in the crossfire since they’re only there to escort the Kingdom's bombers

Yes, the coup d'état planned by Zettour&Tanya to kill him on a flight, portray it as an accident, blame him for treason, and use this opportunity to purge the high command - basically install a Military Dictatorship. For the Allies, they had a spy in the Empire's high places to feed them Rudersdorf's movement - a standard assassination operation. It will be interesting to see how this played out. But the man is so, so dead.

If that’s the case, that’s going to be very interesting…. I figure its part of the plot to assassinate Rudersdorf from Tanya. No way that comes up coincidentally. Leaking information about a top-tier VIP seems like something Tanya is easily capable of. She's very sly like that. Also having enemy combatants also makes Rudersdorf's death easier to play off as an accident assuming everything works out.

If this was the plan then they wouldn't need to be doing the assassination themselves. They could just 'coincidentally' find the evidence of the coup in his office or something after the enemy does the killing for them. I think it really is just everyone collectively realizing this one stubborn old hardass is responsible for dragging out the war effort. (though really it's not even him, they should have bombed the nobles and emperor to actually put an end to the war.) One way or another I guess this was always going to end in a military coup lol.

As the plane was taking off all I could think of is, who leaked who is on that plane? Which plane? Rudersdorf leaking his own supposed location, going out to bait Zettour into thinking he needs to throw together a quick “kill my friend” plot. But if Rudersdorf instead baits both party’s into meeting up for a best v best v best matchup, then who does he think will win? If he’s the source of the leak, is this all his setup? He is using a tactical plan to bait out his fellow strategic officer, with a hidden secret strategy, the same one Zettour called him out for not having? Probably not. He’s probably just being a bit of an idiot acting irrationally…. Is what he wants everyone to think, yeah I can drop it that’s got to be what’s going on.

Zettour: Ruddersdorf has gone insane. I need you to take him out. Tanya: Why take just him out when we can frame him and then take out the entire Imperial Command while at it? Holy fucking cow Tanya. Raising the stakes even more dangerously just so she could have a cozy retirement. Not if Entity X has anything to say about it. At the same time, the Allied spy ULTRA has also secretly arranged for the Not-UK squadron to use a shuttle bombing operation across Imperial airspace in order to assassinate a "high-ranking Imperial official". Could Zettour be ULTRA after all? And he's just hiring Tanya as insurance to make sure Ruddersdorf is properly assassinated in case the Not-UK and Not-Soviet units, as well as the Allied Volunteer mage unit (i.e. Mary's unit) fail? Cue Entity X to make things screw up very badly for all parties involved. Especially when Mary and Tanya cross paths again.

Funny you mention Being X. Why do you think Rudersdorf is so unhinged? They keep showing the nutcracker lately. Pretty sure they're saying Being X is messing with people's dreams to prevent the end of the war just like he did with the Ruskies. Tanya's basically just taking the only real chance any of them have to survive this. In his unhinged state his refusal to just take the L on a fight even he admits is hopelessly lost he's basically sentencing them all to death.
