It's a damn shame that I find Tetsuo and his whole "make 100 friends" schtick to be so annoying, because just about everything else about this show is pretty good. The action scene and Tetsuo's creativity with the mini-excavator was cool, and I like the white-haired girl and the bald dude already. I'll give this one more episode.

The whole social anxiety blocking communication thing is probably my least favorite harmless trope of all time. Which is kind of a shame since the rest of the show is a cool premise. Hope he can at least get to a workable level soon or I might have to drop. Part of what’s annoying is that it’s just an inaccurate portrayal used as a plot device. Social anxiety usually manifests before (blocking opportunity) or after (causing regret or shame) an interaction, not usually during, or at least not as strongly. No one I’ve ever met is this much of a bundle of nerves to the point of making communication impossible, and watching it is like nails on a chalkboard.

Imagine your whole teenage life was wholly devoted to kill mini-STMCs without a proper school life where you're supposed to learn proper communication, and interacting with a sentient caretaker AI instead 24/7. The same can happen to anybody and it's just too normal for him acting like that. Judging from the next episode preview though, he'll definitely move forward in human interaction.

I am enjoying the premise, it feels kinda inspired by the Lost Planet video games which intrigues me. I just wish he was even slightly more normal. We don't need to make him good at interacting with people or even talkative, just make him at least somewhat human.

Maybe the introductory chapter of the "Idiot's Guide to Making Friends" forgot to state that it is not necessary to follow each step in sequence. Tetsuo probably didn't realize he skipped to the advanced lessons, when he saved Joji from the falling icicle. He may have been hesitant to shake Takimura's hand, but I am glad the latter reached out to him!

The CGI in this anime is amazing. Considering it was made by Studio Kai, it's not that surprising. Sentenced to be a hero also had an animated adaptation made by the same studio, which is very amazing.

The 3d cg goes between looking really good and looking stiff as hell depending on what's happening. I do not like how inconsistent it is.

We saw before that humanity was able to take down the Kaiju with soldiers and traditional arms, but it just wasn't anywhere near as effective as Yukio. Even here, Tetsuo had to gamble that he could pierce through it without getting eaten.

Those are fair points but when traditional arms include guns that fire 1.5 tons of exploding armor-piercing depleted uranium per minute and missiles that can easily level a building, it's still a little embarrassing to not completely obliterate enemies that can be taken down by a compact excavator.

To be fair there were a LOT of kaijus. Like, if it's just about killing them, clearly even the medieval civilization that is left can manage, if probably with great effort. But you saw last episode, that swarm could have been called endless.

Man, I’m really curious what the hell happened on earth after that battle. The kaiju seem to have evolved. That last one looked almost humanoid. Shit looked like a cross between Godzilla and a Titan.

Nishimura briefly flashed back to white balls surrounding a city so maybe that's connected? Also Chief Nogi has white hair and he seemed to imply he found her after the Earth became covered in snow, so I wonder if that's connected.

Ahh last week's preview showing that guy on the surface was a little bit of a fake out. Seems like Earth's surface might be completely uninhabitable. Any life up top probably suffered the same fate completely freezing solid and breaking apart like glass ice sheets. Makes me wonder what, if any kind of, plants and animals may have survived by retreating beneath the surface as well. Hopefully we'll see if humans managed to save some sort of farm wildlife to sustain them, because I don't think hunting and butchering Kaiju is a sustainable solution long term. At the end we saw a Kaiju developing and evolving a skeletal structure. I'm guessing this is due to gravity, forcing them to develop to support themselves. Curious as to why that one started to look humanoid though. Seems like an awfully fast evolution, in just 10 years to go from a fish/sea-life looking thing to human. Maybe the Kaiju adapted to look like humans since they were the previous dominant species?

I like the premise of the show but man... I don't like the MC at all and the show is awkward in many places, such as using a mini excavator to battle kaiju. I found it really dumb and I'm sure it would have broken down 25 times if used like they showed us. In fact, it would have broken down when it fell in the hole. They should have just used a pistol, laser, sword or whatever from the emergency kit (i.e. in case stuck on a planet or something). I don't know if I will stick to this one. I rarely drop shows, but this one is a very big disappointment and I'm not sure I want to stick with the story of making "friends".
