After all, he already appeared in the first episode , together with Manatsu and Rairi when Kuroe transformed into a kaiju for the first time, and was the only one that didn't have any role in the plot until now.

I'm not totally against a new SSSS anime, but I also don't think it needs one and I think Gridman Universe was a fantastic cap off, especially given how a pretty blatant allegory in it was how corporate interests can keep a franchise going simply for the sake of it to the point where they lose sight of the actual meaning and reason people cared in the first place

Maybe it's just a bit of flavor that won't go anywhere, but there are definitely hints that it's not just be Kuroe and sis.

I’m just curious if this one will be able to turn into a human like Kuroe. This doesn’t strike me as a show with death or serious conflict so I have to imagine that, after causing some chaos, Kuroe will eventually subdue her and then Akae will get a human form so she can live alongside her sister. Because if she stays a kaiju she can’t really exist in the city and would be limited narratively.

Completely off-topic but I'm going to jump on this tangent to plug the shoujo manga QQ Sweeper and its direct sequel Queen's Quality. It's a lot like the Persona game series but (IMO) with a tighter narrative if only because it doesn't have the branching options and pacing issues that arise when a RPG player is given some freedom of choice.

A tonal shift seems to have began last episode already with the monitor lizards attacking Manatsu. This episode we got the mom pulling out a gun. When a show pulls a shift like this it usually doesn’t go back.

I don’t consider those real tonal shifts. On paper were those conflicts? Sure. But none of those things equal “oh shoot it has gotten serious now.” They had no tension, it was like a PG level of danger. (Idk if you can have guns in a PG show but I trust you get it)

It still felt like a big leap from the shoujo romcom feel of the show. From watching the earlier episodes you don’t see any of the characters actually be in real danger given pretty much nobody seems to have gotten injured or died from Kuro transforming in crowded areas like right next to buildings, the concert or in the middle of Tokyo.

I wonder if the new red dragon kaiju will suddenly evolve into a human form and actually become Kuroes sister/ brother. Maybe after a short kaiju battle. And the mother is nuts. She would happily see the world destroyed if it means freedom for the kaijus.

Love the mom, she was off from the start. The whole "no one will ever love you like me" was a hint that she wasn't as good as she seems. She just wants to protect her kids, but is flawed, and that's a great character.

Hey now, Manatsu didn't do something so criminal as breaking into an apartment. If you watch it over again, you'll see that she just set up a whole set of an apartment complete with lighting in front of his apartment building. They were outside the entire time. Her hired help even had to pack it all up after she left.

Saying “no one will ever love you like me” is what an abuser isolating their victim from the outside world would say. But, her daughter is a Kaiju, so it’s definitely more defensible in this case. However, as she implied herself, she is fine with Kuroe destroying Tokyo and killing its inhabitants, even though that would cause Kuroe herself more grief than anything. She is doing a decent job given the circumstances, but she is toxic and unhinged. While she certainly loves her daughter, I think it’s inaccurate to say that she is straight-up a “good mom”.

Kuroe IS a kaiju, she's not human. We don't know if she can even retain a human form for her whole life even if she wanted to. Maybe she can but the possibility that she will one day just permanently be Godzilla is a real one. I don't think her mother necessarily WANTS Tokyo to be destroyed but she has to entertain that possibility and chooses to love her daughter anyways. We've already seen her mom actively trying to keep her daughter out of situations where she loses control, so she's obviously not a murderous psychopath. In the end she knows she MAY have to choose humanity or her daughter and she picks her daughter. I don't know if I would do the same but I can respect it.

I'm on the fence. It seems like they aren't hinting at it, besides maybe from his hair. (He also picks up Kuroe easily, but that's on brand for this series's gags.) But, with 3 episodes left, having him turn out to be a kaiju too would be the simplest route to resolving most of the plot at this point: he wouldn't be a rival for Minami, wouldn't reveal the secret, could date Manatsu, etc.
