It's one of the best aspects of the medium, honestly. Animation lets you do wild, crazy, downright silly shit and it can still work without stretching credulity. Live Action can easily get uncanny or look hokey if bad CGI or practical effects are used, and certain things would be rather impossible to pull off. Animation, though, has far less constraints, and as long as the production itself is quality, then it keeps an internal consistency. You can have Kuroe doing partial Kaiju transformations, or Rairi quick changing from Kong to Gyaru, and it doesn't look out of place.

Yeah, but this was more about the premise and its execution than anything. Take Uma Musume, for example: It's an isekai for race horses, who put on idol performances, and stuff. Also, Symphogear sounds really stupid on paper. And then there's Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete, which you'd think is just generic ecchi slop in a magical girl outfit, but if you bite the bullet and give it a shot just to see how long until it becomes intolerable, you'll find that it's actually really well-done.

It does make sense that the outlandish ideas will be more likely to be good (note you can still get bad or mediocre ones it's just less common) since first, anime is (usually) the adaptation and it's harder for them to become popular enough for an adaptation in the first place than something generic or highly commercial and second, people tend to write weird things because of a passion they have and that often comes through in various ways that make it fun to watch even when not perfect.

It's hilarious how Kuroe has now transformed into Harugon multiple times ever since she accepted Arata's confession. She's transformed so many times that Manatsu is pretty much just on that bridge waiting for her to pop up. She really should just buy an apartment in that area at this point. 😆 Absolute chad behaviour from Arata. The dude doesn't care about likes and shallow people. All he wants is to let everyone know that Kuroe is his girlfriend. Also, we finally get to meet Arata's little sister , who has no idea she just met her brother's girlfriend. Can't wait to see her reaction when she finds out. It sucks to see that Kuroe's new class isn't any better than her old one. At least she's classmates with Manatsu and the resident gyaru Raimu who immediately gave Kuro a quick makeover. Was that supposed to be a Biollante reference when Manatsu was describing Kuroe's makeup? 😆 I'm really happy that Arata managed to tell Kuroe what he thinks about her makeover . In another shoujo, it would've taken until the end of the episode for the FMC to hear that from her love interest. I just really love how Arata takes the initiative every time. We finally get to see what the real Raimu looks like! If the banana earrings and the tree hairclip didn't give away who she was supposed to represent, I'm pretty sure this reveal finally does it. Turning King Kong into a gyaru is such an amazing choice. 😆 Raimu's backstory tho... That dude and her classmate all sucks. I'm glad she managed to stick it to them after treating her like shit. Whatever is in that makeup is amazing, tho. It didn't just change her look, it pretty much changed the bone structure of her face. I just love that this is how they're doing a Kong and Gojira teamup.

In another shoujo, it would've taken until the end of the episode for the FMC to hear that from her love interest. Not only that, but also Kuro's decision to keep their relationship secret for Minami's sake, and Minami's younger sister bringing him his lunch in what looks like a paper shopping bag. I could easily see both of these turn into a whole episode, but Kuro actually explained her reasoning, and Minami's sister is too young for him (and met Kuro instead of her brother), so both problems were resolved immediately.

I'm really happy that Arata managed to tell Kuroe what he thinks about her makeover. In another shoujo, it would've taken until the end of the episode for the FMC to hear that from her love interest. I just really love how Arata takes the initiative every time. One thing that I love is that they're actually communicating now. I feel like a lesser series would have played the "let's pretend we're strangers" bit longer, causing Minami to circle right back into the self-doubt that he literally just got over. Nope, Kuroe at least admits and explains why she suggested the stranger play so Minami doesn't go down that rabbit hole, and then one scene later Kuroe decides to abandon that plan entirely.

Kuroe is becoming more and more confident after in a relation and surrounded by non-bullies, which is a good thing for her and Minami. But her mom and the dog doesn't appreciate her makeups lol. The King Kong......no, the new gal was also treated like dirt by surrounding students, good thing for her becoming pretty with makeups, and she's a good girl deep down in her heart. She making friends with Kuroe will surely help both of them.

This series with its comedy, is quite creative, but also how it touches at home. The gorilla face is an exaggeration but it serves the point. With Rairi we get the example of how makeup can always help with confidence. In fact confidence in itself can make someone more attractive than makeup in itself. It must have taken a lot for Rairi to tell Kuroe her story. This could be a really sweet friendship between these two.

Kuroe is now a freshly-minted girlfriend! And that means she spontaneously transforms into Harugon every night! But at least Manatsu is happy! Kuroe and Minami can finally walk to school together as a couple! And they look utterly adorable! And even if Kuroe doesn't have the confidence to be able to stand proudly as Minami's girlfriend, even though he would shout to the world that she's his girlfriend if he could, she can at least still feel the validation of his love for her! Surprise future sister-in-law appearance! Minami's little sis is adorable, and also aware of how obsessed her brother is with his new girlfriend...not realizing that's EXACTLY who she's talking to. But that gives Kuroe the courage to hold hands with Minami in front of EVERYONE at school. No hiding their relationship now, and for the better! Boo! They're not in the same class any more! But at least Kuroe has Manatsu! What's the worse that could happen? Speak of the gyaru...and the delinquents will appear to harass you (while all the non-Kaiju philistine boys will bother Manatsu). But then the gyaru ACTUALLY appears and she turns out to be...nice, popular, trendy, and a girls' girl who gives Kuroe a free posture lesson and makeover so she can look nice and pretty! Enter Rairi (Haruka Shiraishi)! It's nice to see Kuroe taking more confidence in herself, nailing the class introduction, accepting Minami's compliments, and even reaching out to Rairi so they can shop for makeup together. It's a far cry from how antisocial "Psycho-tan" was at the start of the season. Of course then Kuroe bears witness to Rairi's "true form" without makeup...a savage gorilla! But don't worry, some makeup back on her face and she's right as rain and pretending like that never happened. But in truth Rairi used to be Gori-Rairi, a girl who everyone joked around with for looking like a gorilla. She even rolled with it, especially when she fell for the boy she used to do jokes with about it, even thinking she might really be able to be with him...until it turned out he had a girlfriend, never saw her as anything other than a gorilla, and she got so tired of being the butt of jokes she went full King Kong on her class. Then she discovered makeup, discovered how she could feel pretty and feel better about herself, and decided to become the Posi-Peace Rairi that Kuroe sees before her! And she even wants other girls to feel their prettiest just like she did! If a Gorilla Girl can be pretty, so can a Kaiju Girl! I can see both sides. I think if Kuroe wants to try makeup and make herself look pretty, she should be allowed to...and I can also see how her mom thinks she looks best as her natural self (and she's just trying to look prettier for a boy). Though classic mom move to walk in as she's about to kiss a mirror thinking it's her BF. Class field trip? I'm sure this will end well with no Kaiju shenanigans whatsoever.

Rairi seemed to be a normal person, too normal for this show , so when I saw her gorilla face without makeup, I thought, yeah, she fits perfectly here, hahaha! Kuroe 's reactions were, as usual, so good , cute and fun , and it was good to see her and Minami together in today's episode . Although when it comes to Kuroe's makeup, I can't say that I'm a fan of the lipstick color, so I agree with Rinko in thinking that she looks better without it.
