He wouldn't want to leave Kyoto after all. I will say, while I understand Akane, I feel it was the wrong time to bring that up. It would have made more sense to ask that question during the actual interview after you already got a feeling for the person. Obviously it has to be asked, but shouldn't be the first question. Not sure what the dude at the end wants to achieve her tbh. Like what would he gain from letting the Kaii loose? I doubt there is money to be made in taking down a shrine. I guess, the Kaii could be strong so you might get a potential advertisement when taking it down (there are enough witnesses after all), so maybe that is the goal here.

Honestly probably one of the more interesting transformations not just visually but for how much Sakae seems to actually, physically, transform to the point of looking like an entirely different person. Like she's embodying the ancient miko of days yore. Yeah, her transforming into the old Miko was a really interesting touch. Though, now I would like to know if this form is still at least slightly different for every Miko. I guess we will see what the plan is. I mean, it seems weird to use an "accident" with magic as a way to promote loosening the magic regulations as the reaction would more likely be to go back to what had worked before (so not taking out a Kaii with magic) but maybe the Kaii is so powerful that they would need high energy magic to defeat it. You know, aside from the fact that two coders will work together and probably solve the problem anyway.

I will say, while I understand Akane, I feel it was the wrong time to bring that up. Agreed, I feel she was out of line as a new hire unless she was specifically hired by Magilumiere to do hiring which I doubt because that looks like that's Shigemoto's job. Even not considering that, it is super rude to go up to someone you never met before to start complaining about their circumstances without knowing the whole story.

Magilumiere has met their prospective new engineer a whole day early! Meet Hibiki! The Tonomori Shrine's personal engineer and Sakae's childhood friend! Though his lax attitude towards his academic and general surly demeanor doesn't endear him to someone as professional and competent as Akane. Are they about to lose this chance before he even interviews? I imagine Sakae lecturing Hibiki about his lazy and hostile attitude is pretty common between the two of them as childhood friends, and it might go deeper than that since SHE is the reason he basically chose to stay in Kyoto and attend KMU instead of a more prestigious college. He couldn't leave her. And Koshigaya's shipper senses are tingling the moment she hears Sakae call him "handsome!" Sakae is a traditional shrine maiden magical girl! And as such she carries the tradition of the Tonomori Shrine Maiden: to be a Kaii user! Because she can summon Igni, an ancient B-Class Kaii who takes the form of a legendary beast, once sealed away but now capable of being docile and put on a show for those who attend the Tonomori festival! And a big chunk of that is possible now thanks to Hibiki's programming. Come on man, you don't have to be rude to Nikoyama like that! He just wants to talk programming and gush about how great your skills are! Though Akane's lectures about Hibiki's lack of professionalism isn't endearing him to her or Magilumiere at all. What Akane wouldn't give to "mentor" him into a proper employee. You can always find Koshigaya where the food is. I love how Sakae's transformation sequence happens as she summons Igni and is bathed in fire...it's like she transforms from a girl into a woman, complete with letting her hair down, donning geta heels, a shorter skirt, and a very eye-catching design. She looks great! But is there trouble on the horizon? When Shigemoto sees a familiar face who has apparently escaped prison and knows Tsustsumi? Is that the blonde dude hanging on a tree with some kind of...rifle? I'd hate to think what he'd do, especially after Hibiki explained how the show could go wrong.

How can you tell you won’t mesh with this one right off the bat? If it was only sealed away rather than actually defeated… is it possible that Kaii will end up escaping so the gang needs to defeat it? Oh, they use it in their festival? Wow. Makes sense… Of course this excites Nikoyama. Huh, so that’s the context of the episode title? Haha, alright then. Hibiki “sore demo”! – But he does bring up a concerning idea… That’s so cool! Uh…

Sakae's henshin was very nice, combo transformation plus spirit summoning. Pretty cool that this shrine has a thousand year old sealed kali that got brought into modern magical girls technology. Hopefully the trouble that sniper dude is about to start won't ruin it all. I could see Niko jumping in to help and him and Hibiki collaborating to improve Sakae's combo with Igni into something that she can use more than just at the shrine. The ED does show the two of them going out to eat with the other magical girls after all.

I will admit that I never really watched the Magical Girls genre much, though I have seen a few episodes of Sailor Moon and a few others. The main thing I remember is that often the Transformation sequence could always be a little....fanservicey? Though I am not sure if that is quite the right word? Suggestive? A bit...I don't know, you could see the curves and everything as they showed the whole sequence. One thing I am glad about Magilumiere is you get to see the transformation, you know it's happening, but it doesn't seem so suggestive...Even though this series seems to be aimed at the adults who grew up watched the genre as kids, that's why there is more adult themes in it, rather than the main characters being high school girls doing high school girl things.

Quite the tantalizing idea of having Kai as summoned beasts to fight other Kai, but also very dangerous. Very likely we will get a repeat from the expo and endanger everyone and have it be put down. Specially with all those "this is the safest place" flags being tossed so casually. And then guy that should be in jail appearing... Makino getting pissed for Niko made her one of my favorite characters. Hibiki needs to learn a lesson on teamwork. Sakae's transformation was a work of art, so nice and smooth.

While the show has Magical Girls, I wouldn't recommend it as a typical Magical Girl Show, but as a workplace slice of life show where the characters are working for a company that employs Magical Girls that take down monsters. With the magic being code based (so there is a coder that supplies the girls with new spells). Now this isn't to say that you can't have any fun with it as a Magical Girl Genre fan, because there are a lot of details where the author shows that they like the Magical Girl Genre as well. But the main conflict is less about the monsters (and the potential evil behind it) but stuff like "small startup vs big tech firm".

I will also add that as a Magical Girl show Magilumiere can be on the plainer side, but because we're in the post-Madoka era when there's now too many grim, gritty and satirical takes on the genre, Magilumiere's more traditional vibes (that come with its own style and flair) winds up being a great palate cleanser as though it remembers what gave rise to the genre in the first place. The charm, the optimism, the dreams for the young ladies that is now part of the ecosystem of the anime landscape. But if one's established baseline are just the more old school ones like Sailor Moon, Pretty Cure and Cardcaptor Sakura, there's a chance that Magilumiere might not feel as special.
