Who could have known that employing a crazy lunatic might be a bad idea? But honestly, I am kind of glad that the story wasn't going the way I assumed with Mei (at least partially) transforming through the large amount of magic. I still think that will be a plot point in a potential S3, but for now we can be safe. Especially since we got the Mei transformation sequence. I find it kind of funny that they called this magic "wing". Like I get why, it looks like wings, but I feel a better name for this would be Mami. Just saying (also yes, I am still waiting for that movie to release internationally).

I love the eyecatch, those two are such goofballs. Dang, is the deregulation faction going to try using this to spin Magilumiere as the bad guys once all this is over? Great, the defeated Kaii came back… Yikes… Tsuchiba… Like you have any grounds to stand on, Tsuchiba. Kana actually slapped her… I mean. Huh. Kinda wasn’t expecting that to happen.

Whoops, turns out the mad scientist you were employing to make carefully controlled monstrosities was actually in it to make uncontrolled ones instead. Who could have ever guessed. Good thing the AST president isn't also a psychopath and was immediately willing to tell Mei to stand down instead of killing herself with his hardware. Some nice vaguely yuri moments when Kana flew up there to confront Mei and remind her of their weekend date plans.

This made me wonder about how magical girls in this setting are kinda like emergency response workers, in which case the death of an "employee" actually could be justified if it was in pursuit of saving lives. Like how sometimes firefighters regrettably lose their lives. It's a dangerous job. But as far as I know firefighters don't work in competing private companies. So magical girls are in a grey area between the two here.

I get the feeling that Tsuchiba got burned real bad by the failure of her families candy shop, it taught her the hard way at a very young age that the whole idea of pouring your heart into something and working hard doesn't really mean anything and that it and similar platitudes you see in anime, at least of that type, are meaningless. I also think that her line about a job you can bail on is a result of this, and at least somewhat correct, at least in her line of work.

From what we know, in this setting there used to be a "nationalised" public sector of the Magical Girl profession, but it's only fairly recent like 15 years ago in Shigemoto and Koga's generation that it got turned over the private sector. Who knows what could've brought that on.

Really love seeing the girls working together and adapting their magic to a crisis situation! Koga hears of a big Kaii outbreak while in a meeting and all he cares about is mobilizing AST's new weapon to defeat it. What better opportunity to present his companies' ethos in action? But Magilumiere is also hard at work taking down the Mutated Kaii one arm at a time through steady and consistent work. They probably COULD have defeated all of it had Tsuchiba not shown up with the Wings...but at least they've got a Plan B. "Wings" is basically the ability to pop out as many guns as Tsuchiba could possibly need to blow away her enemies with absolute impunity. Not very Magical Girl-like, but you can't argue against the effectiveness even if Koshigaya is NOT happy about Tsuchiba's involvement. Kamakura thinks they could still spin this as a win but Murao isn't happy about Shigemoto's involvement and just like he can't keep ANYTHING clean he can't help himself from getting personally involved...and making this Kaii even more dangerous. Tsuchiba was warned not to exceed 100% and put herself in danger but she's too caught up in doing her job and fulfilling her obligation as an employee above all else. Gone is the girl who once believed in Magical Girls and loved them with all her heart because the cold reality of her family sweets shop going out of business and Magical Girls not paying the bills caused her to become as pragmatic and razor-cosued on the company line above all else. Kana can't convince her, even with a slap and reminding her that they are real, honest-to-goodness, Magical Girls...but Koga, for all his faults, tells Tsuchiba to stand down. This isn't worth losing her. And so she does. But they've still got a rampaging Kaii to deal with!

Kana tried her best to get through to Mei but she stood down only after listening to Koga. It was surprising to see Koga prioritise her safety over the job. I guess even he knows that this mutated Kaii isn't something that Mei can handle without sacrificing herself. The bitch Sho fucks Kamakura in the back lol I really thought that Mei had lost her family to Kaii and that powerlessness was what made her into the woman that she is now but it was entirely different. She realised being obsessed over fiction and ideals wouldn't save her and her family's impoverishment so she decided to make a real change and joined AST to fulfill her dreams and tried to commit her whole life to it. I wish her backstory was the former which would make her character stand out but we still didn't get to see the whole picture so can't say for sure.

Why does the new tech even have an option to go over 100%. That's not what 100% means. The story would be identical if they said "we've only tested up to 75% capacity, please don't go over that" and Mei pushed it to the real 100% anyway I hope the flat panel portals and regular guns are supposed to be temporary assets while this thing is in development, because that would be pretty lame as the final product I can't believe it took 11 episodes to return to Kana being a magical girl anime protagonist. I feel like it undercuts the work-life balance messaging for the AST company president to take Kana's side
