Russian Writeup! First of all, I want to say that Kujima probably has the best Russian among Japanese seiyuus that I ever heard. In Alya or Golden Kamuy I need to check subtitles half of the time to understand their Russian lines Now, some culture beats. The name Kujima (or rather Kuzma ) is a name that gives "old Russia" vibes. Even with current renaissance of older names, it's quite rare. I don't think I know any Kuzma personally. Most modern Russian people will associate this name with a Soviet cartoon character or with a proverb famously used by Khrushchev. One thing I noticed is that Kujima's Russian is somewhat less formal than, say, Alya's. for example, "slysh" (="hey, listen") is rather informal word. "Perviy blin komom" ("first pancake is always a lump") is a real saying which is quite often used exactly as it was shown. Hope there'll be more interesting Russian bits from Kuzma in the future!

i speak russian and my personal theory is that kujima already speaks in a bit of a funny voice, like it's speech is a bit cartoonish, which somehow helps to hide the accent. It gets my approval, i really enjoyed the voice acting and the accent

What an odd and interesting show. I thought it was going to have Kujima chase them with the saw or be violent. I didn't get why Kujima made that long bamboo slide and had noodles slide down it though and no one in the family seemed to question why he didn't just boil it and serve it in the kitchen.

I'll just go out and say it - nope the Kujima character is drawn just plain weird. No problem with the way it's characterised - the 'fun but also obnoxious character' concept works well. But it simply looks like the design was to be as quick and easy to draw as possible. Everyone and everything else is drawn in a reasonable style, but Kujima is just some very werid shaped simple outline bird. Considering it could have been literally anything that is somewhat bird shaped, the choice is just weird.

culture is different from . There are plenty things that are technically illegal but people (inlcuding law enforcement) don't make a big deal out of it in most cases. It's what you'd call a trivial offense. I feel like a lot of people hear the word "crime" and think it has to be something awful when that's not necessarily the case. Give the 2nd episode a shot. It gets weird and creepy. I felt the same way about the first episode. None of the characters, with the exception of the older brother, made me feel anything. The show kind of starts abruptly and then expects you to immediately be sympathetic to the characters and their lives. But I'm going to give it a chance anyway.
2話は試してみるといいよ。だんだん不気味で奇妙になっていく。1話は俺も同じ感想だった。兄以外のキャラに全然感情移入できなかったし、いきなり話が始まってすぐにキャラやその生活に共感しろって感じだけど、それでも一応チャンスはあげようと思ってる。普通くん

I love that they spend the beginning of the episode showing us really well-animated birds. Like the creators want us to know that they know what a bird is, before introducing us to Kujima.
冒頭でめっちゃ綺麗に動く鳥たちを見せてくるの好きすぎるッ！「俺たち鳥って知ってるよ？」って制作陣が言ってるみたいじゃん？その後にクジマを紹介する流れがエモい感情くん

This is so weird haha. The family accepted it pretty quickly. The part where Kujima was in a bag watching ballet was cute though. Will be interesting to know their background.
