Botan why are you third wheeling Yaeka and Akane's take-care-of-your-sick-lover event? Ibuki's "Eh?" was so funny. Every episode brings us closer to Yama no Susume; pretty sure this mountain (Mt Buko) was in YnS too. She is adorable . Did Ibuki hallucinate the granny? She's not even drunk yet. Planetarium date is a classic. Botan and Ibuki are reaching new levels of "understanding" and going no honorifics now. Gujou lucky pervert moment? She was not prepared for Chin-Lan's cake even though they've already been to the onsen together. Poor Gujou so used to yearn-maxxing that she needs a moment to process things when she's on the receiving end and being picked up. Chin-Lan though is locked in like a heat-seeking missle; lesbians from countries with legalized gay marriage are just built different. Yaeka focused ED this week. Surprised that she was ballet dancer. Is that her childhood crush? The bath is ready.

These two are so cute together. Uchu Brewing, as one might expect, is yet another real brewery. Chin-Lan seems to have re-focused pretty quickly once she learned Botan was already "taken". Gujou is going to have to adjust to being "sought after". I swear, I admire the EDs in this series as much or more than I love whole episodes of shows I actually like reasonably well. Every one of these so far has been a treasure.

Every episode brings us closer to Yama no Susume; pretty sure this mountain (Mt Buko) was in YnS too. yeah, the Yama no Susume expy has returned to their natural habitat; i distinctly remember the "carry a bottle please" thing from Yama no Susume as well as the "ah man why the hell do people do this" inner monologue (though that might be in a different episode), and i was thinking that Ibuki might have a fear of heights like Aoi no magical grandmas though, that's new

Did Ibuki hallucinate the granny? She's not even drunk yet. A hallucination that gave her a two liter bottle of water? Na that was the mountain god. Yaeka focused ED this week. Surprised that she was ballet dancer. Is that her childhood crush? Seems like she loved ballet but wasn't as naturally talented and hard work wasn't enough to keep up with her friend. Maybe she was hurt to much by it and had to stop.

Gujuo and Chinlan have crazy sexual tension. I wasn’t expecting the losing heroine types to actually have that much chemistry with each other. Chin-Lan has the right amount of game to seduce a modest girl like Gujuo. I was expecting more gay panic like when Botan flirts with her. But that wasn’t panic. She was down for it. Botan and Ibuki are becoming a couple. They almost professed being in love before kissing. I did find it funny they had a platonic hike to wind down all the gay but once the couples were back together the gay went through the roof.

Yaeka cute! Poor Ibuki have to spend a whole day without her wife. YAMA NO SUSUME EPISODE! Honestly, kinda sad Botan isn't here for this. Cute granny .... Who is apparently a ghost... Ibuki should call an exorcist, I think this mountain might be haunted... (Seriously tho, the scene with the ghost granny is actually pretty sweet) What a tease... Botan teasing isn't healthy for Ibuki. Actually, them flirting isn't good for MY health . (Also, very interesting direction choice, but it's odd that it was only for this segment) Seriously, this segment is so fucking gay! I love it! Finally! These two alone together at last! This segment is also super gay! God, I love this show. So, like did everyone have a doomed yuri backstory in the ED? This is like the third.

... did Ibuki just talk to a ghost? Or a ninja-obasan The environment art this time around is very sharp. Almost like an actual photograph with a filter. Those were some great ambient mountain forest sounds Also snuggling and lovingly gazing at one another is all well and cute. But I can't imagine Tokyo SkyTree planetarium tickets are cheap so at least look at the damn stars once in a while Also, Gujo x Chin-Lan LETS FUCKING GOOOO From vthe ED, interesting that Yaeko did ballet

Nothing like a nice ice cold beer with the girl you’re crushin on. Just a beer nerd note here, but there's no way Ibuki drinks her craft beer "ice cold." Coldness inhibits flavor, which is fine if you're drinking a macrobrewed lager but undesirable for a good beer. Some argue that's why the macrobrewers advertise the attractiveness of ice cold beer - their beer is so bad that they don't want you to taste it. Allow a cold beer to warm up a little and you'll notice so much more flavor.

Yaeka's acting like a needy kid around Akane when she's got a fever. They've got a big married couple energy. Botan should've read the room and go hiking instead of being the third wheel. A love seat at the planetarium? Botan, you flirt! On the other hand, Ibuki should be embracing it for that's surely a way to get to know Botan better. Chin-Lan's already aware of Botan & Ibuki, while that short exchange with Akane & Yaeka told her enough about them. That left her with Kanade, and she's not wasting any time. From leaving the bathroom door open to having Kanade apply some lip balm to her lips. It's a treat to have all three couples having their own moment. From the well-established pairing of Akane & Yaeka, the blooming Botan & Ibuki, to the brand new Chin-Lan and Kanade couple. The ultimate treat would be to have a mega triple date over some drinks. That would make a banger finale.

Chin-Lan's already aware of Botan & Ibuki, while that short exchange with Akane & Yaeka told her enough about them. That left her with Kanade, and she's not wasting any time. From leaving the bathroom door open to having Kanade apply some lip balm to her lips. As someone else pointed out, Taiwan is the only country in east Asia that has legalized same sex marriage. Chin-Lan is here to find a bride to bring back home and she won't be left empty handed!

Damn that one eyecatch with Chin-Lan made me gasp in shock lol, she looked way too good there and she had so much personality.  Chin-Lan is a bold one asking Gujou to put the lip mask on her, and Gujou for going along with it. There was a lot of tension there, I didn't expect things to move that quickly.  Product placement for that scene with Ibuki and Botan would be an understatement lol, it feels like they even disregarded Ibuki's hiccups to make sure she flawlessly read the advert script.  Ballerina Yaeka was so cute in the ED. It sucks the next round of EDs are still the solo songs, I was hoping for duets with the couples.

why did Botan want to stay behind anyways I get the sense that as keen as Botan is to develop her understanding of Ibuki, she intentionally tries to create opportunities for the other girls to spend time with Ibuki without Botan in the mix. Perhaps recognizing, as we saw in the overnight stay with Chin Lan, that when Botan and Ibuki are together it tends to create a special zone that the others are excluded from.

The show is currently at September of this year, but this sign is still on about a bear sighting three years ago! I wonder how long they leave these things up? Foreigners are really magical, aren't they Alongside the other Yama No Susume references people have mentioned, the mountain-shaped insert bubble is giving me nostalgia For a moment, I thought she was holding up her phone Stepping on the otaku button "…using only your lips"

Friendship ended with Botan x Ibuki. Now Chin-lan x Kanade is my best friend. Jokes aside, I'm starting to get mildly annoyed by Botan and Ibuki basically already acting like a couple but neither of them gets their shit together and just confesses already. I'd understand taking it slow to not take any risks, if it wasn't so fucking obvious that they are both clearly into each other, and not just from the viewer's perspective. Getting a bit infuriating by now. For Chin-lan and Kanade on the other hand, I vibe with their personalities and their dynamic a whole lot more and that's only after 1 episode of shared screentime. They feel way more their age to me which is great, compared to Botan and Ibuki who still kinda come across as teenagers at times. Which wouldn't be a problem by itself, if they weren't supposed to be full on adults already in a college-setting show.

I'm starting to get mildly annoyed by Botan and Ibuki basically already acting like a couple but neither of them gets their shit together and just confesses already i'm getting the feeling that they'll keep dancing this dance and never actually cross the threshold over to "actual lesbian couple" territory when i think about the dichotomy between yuri as a genre and actual queer relationships, i think about the show Yuri is My Job! , where the front of house theme cafe is what the audience expects out of a yuri show (maidenly purity, refined chasteness, innocent longing, etc.) and the behind-the-scenes drama hews closer to actual relationships (flawed characters, messy communication, jealous angst, throes of passion, etc.) that's not to say that one type is better (other than personal taste), but i think there are trade-offs when you cross the line from "platonic ideal of yuri" to "actually acting like a couple"

This isn't a platonic ideal of yuri type show. Modern yuri is very explicit about their romantic relationships. You'd struggle to find a series where they're not just eventually dating (with all that comes with that). "Yuri is My Job" was spoofing a very old and outdated form of yuri series mostly from the 90s and early 2000s. It then added commentary to those older ideals. In general, it just takes time to build to a confession. They're both just feeling around a bit but even within that they've been very explicit about each other in a way that's not possible to view platonically. Each episode has shown major and meaningful progression though.

Poor Ibuki, having to climb an entire mountain and she doesn't even get to have her maybe girlfriend along with. And then she runs into an old ghost that guilts her into participating in the water carrying tradition, which I have to comment is a really hilarious thing to get a bunch of people climbing a mountain to do. Interesting to learn that there's a planetarium (and an aquarium too) at the Tokyo Skytree. Botan and Ibuki, somehow this relationship is moving fast but also moving glacially at the same time. That lip balm ending scene, my god. Nice to see the third ship start to sail. Kitamori dancing in the ED story today was delightful, particularly when she got discovered by her wife.

While I too am an indoor person, the first half of the episode kind of makes me think hiking is actually fun. I guess the propaganda is working lol The second half shows us the two pairs of Botan/Ibuki and Chin Lan/Gujo growing closer. See, this is why i am an advocate of keeping honorifics in the text. Ibuki asking Botan to drop the -san when it's just them is a sign of the progression of their relationship. I'm so happy for Gujo. After all the time she spent pursuing Ibuki led to nothing, now finally someone is pursuing her. Although it does seem like she's not quite over Ibuki yet, she does seem to be opening up to Chin Lan because i mean, damn. The tension when Chin Lan asked Gujo to apply the lip balm was insane. Now that every main character has had a turn at singing the ED, i thought we would start getting duets or we would get to see all of them singing the ED. But instead Yaeka sings the ED again today. It was nice seeing her backstory in the ED MV. Didn't know she used to do ballet.
