How to add to a romcom about childhood friends trying to hook up with each other? Add a childhood friend side-ship. I guess it's not surprising Miku left some things after the sleepover...and it's beauty products that would (in her head) make her look like too much of a try-hard girl to Yukiya's parents. Luckily he's got her covered! And why not leave them (and her toothbrush) at his place? It'll be like she always has a place there, like a proper girlfriend! Just don't use her toothbrush, even if it's brushed every inch of Miku's mouth! It's the perogative of any childhood friend to wake their childhood friend up for school, and now even Yukiya's mom is shipping them! Though getting to gaze at your childhood friend while he cutely sleeps is fun until he wakes up and reveals he isn't wearing pants. Time for the umbrella of romance, with both of them putting their all into flirting with each other while sharing an umbrella! Even if they get so self-conscious about their bodies being pressed togetherin the rain that Miku has to take the first convenient excuse to run to Nacchan that she gets. But don't worry, Nacchan knows she wishes she could be right next to Yukiya. Definitely a LOT to look forward to over the Summer! Like Miku in a yukata during a festival! Miku in a swimsuit for a Beach Episode! Miku...wearing a swan costume, for some reason! Though for now he'll have to settle for her winking at him and him...not being able to wink at all! But the pair better watch out for the serious, cool beauty, student council president Kazane Shirayuri who is a Blood-Soaked Lily who doesn't compromise or let anyone slack off in her presence, including students. And she's been watching Yukiya and Miku participate in the Love Game this whole time, and now they have to answer for all their flirting. Yeah, constantly flirting with each other at school despite not dating is kind of weird (though "obscene" might be a bit much), but then this turns into an opportunity for Kazane to vent about childhood friends...only for HER childhood friend Kakeru to walk in and make her so obviously flustered that it's clear she's smitten with him. And also a tsundere who will punch him when he throws her off too much. That's right! Kazane is in love with her childhood friend too and is desperate to make him see her as a girl! Which means she needs any insight into the Love Game that she can get Right down to having the two play it out in front of her! Miku can totally relate to her and Yukiya even lets her know the key is her winning smile! Just like Miku's smile means everything to him! Though for a diligent and serious girl, that's not an easy task.

The ever expanding set of wingwomen, now Yukiya's mom and that one classmate girl with the neat old style umbrella. Probably not the terrifying student council president though since she has her own issues. Keeping some overnight supplies at your not-quite-boyfriend-yet's house is a good step. It's a nice level of tsun comparison to see how the council president acts, Miku has very few tsunderays compared to her.

Okay, the toe scrunch and feet kicking at the beginning was just adorbs! Quality of this episode was pretty high overall. His little sister is so f-king done with their crap, while his mom totally ships them. Our adorkable pair is starting to realize their game is getting serious at this point. They're sooo close to the tipping point. Yukiya basically admitted his feelings to the student council girl. Both of them just need to get some self-esteem and realize the other person would not take all that flirting if they weren't interested in the first place.

They've gotten bolder. I was surprised to see them walking close together like that in public, anyone from school that sees them will think they're a couple.  The moment Shirayuri caught them was hilarious, they were quite into their role play so that must be extra embarrassing.  I thought Shirayuri was actually going to be a shipper considering how much she knew of their antics, she sounded like a stalker lol. It was nice to see how cute she is around Kakeru, minus the punch, it's clear he's into her, but looks like both of them haven't known how or have been too afraid to break the status quo.  8 episodes later and we finally got a side couple lol.

Miku leaving a set of toiletries over at her boyfriend's house is cute and a step. It was nice to see Yukiya's mom for the first time I think. I'm surprised she doesn't already know they're that Miku and Yukiya are down bad for each other. I'll never get tired of Wakana just being so over it. They seem to be getting more bold walking to school under the same umbrella and touching each other and getting distracted by each other during the school assembly. I laughed out loud when student council president caught them flirting. I'm a sucker for a character saying something will not happen, then it immediately happens. Of course the student council president knows everything that goes on a school and is going have them come to the student council office to explain. It seemed like they were going to get dressed down by Kazane, but then her examples were oddly specific and then the president's childhood friend walked in and we realized that the Kazane is tsundere and down bad for him. The funniest thing though has to be that she's and is coming these dorks of all people for love advice lol. I did like though that Kazane was able to get Yukiya to admit that the Love Game has been working on him and that genuine smiles are a cheat code for him. I already really liked this show, but it just got even better with Kazane’s side ship. Watch Miku and Yukiya encourage Kazane to be assertive and honest with her feelings, while they don't take their own advice lol. Or maybe helping Kazane with her childhood friend romance finally clues Yukiya and Miku in that losing the Love Game maybe isn't so bad. One thing that sucked is that we didn't get Wakana roasting them in the next episode this time. All she did was announce the next episode's title.

Honestly, I've mostly felt like this show has been losing me since it's sort of like a discount Kaguya without it being as funny or having a strong supporting cast, or the characters having strong personalities or having an overarching narrative... but this episode and the last one were pretty cute. The introduction of the student council president sort of broke things up enough that we actually got to see other parts of the character's personalities at least a little.

I think this is not at all a "discount Kaguya". It has such a different tone -- much sweeter and calmer overall. And it deals with a different adolescent problem -- how can two childhood buddies handle a dangerous transition. They are so important to each other that they can't bear the thought that a one-sided romantic move might ruin a precious relationship they never want to lose. These two (because of their long-standing BFF-hood) are unusually handsy with each other. Very different from Kaguya (and Takagi, for that matter).

I was being a little flippant; I meant discount Kaguya in that the narrative tool to drive the relationship forward is "try to get the other person to confess." The main difference to me between Kaguya and this is actually that in Kaguya the relationship develops over the course of the manga / anime, while in this they've been crushing hard on each other for a while. The reason I called it "discount Kaguya" specifically is that I feel like in early Kaguya, the majority of the episodes are based around the "love game". I totally get that this is supposed to be different, but that "transition in life stages" theme isn't particularly well stressed imo, and it leans really heavily on the hijinks which feel kinda fluffy and weightless. YMMV on how much you buy into it absent that, but I haven't found the characters themselves to be that compelling.

Nah, you're on point and I agree with the criticisms. I thought the first few episodes were decent, but it quickly starting spinning its wheels by just doing the same stuff over and over again with no progression. Every single character (except Wakana) seems just so lifeless and by the books. I wouldn't say I hate this show because I'm still watching it, but at this point I just wanna see how this season ends. It's definitely the worst show I'm watching this season.

It must be wonderful to wake up seeing the person you love, but then you remember the concept of pajamas. Okay, I was already expecting the president to be some kind of psychopath who takes school rules seriously (which is partially true lol), but the main point here is that she doesn't know how to express herself, so she used Miku and Yukiya as models. It seems fair to me, despite the high probability of getting punched.

Oh my, leaving stuff in Yukiya's house, Miku? You're being much more honest no! Thanks, Mrs. Asagi, for letting Miku wake up Yukiya! You're right to suspect they've got something going in between them! Wakana however is just used to this now. Miku wanted to tease and surprise Yukiya, but all that happened is that she got embarrassed herself! They started walking together in the rain, and they started noticing so much more things about each other. They're soooo in love. Miku and Yukiya were so distracted by each other during the school assembly too. But that led to them being rash in their childhood friend antics and getting caught by President Shirayuri! Uh oh! But it turns out Shirayuri just wants help handling her feelings for Kakeru, her own childhood friend! Because she doesn't want to keep punching him! Practice your childhood friend arts, Miku and Yukiya! Show her how it's done, so she can play the Aishiteru Game with Kakeru too! Next time, Miku will take on Shirayuri as an apprentice. Oh boy, this will turn out very well for everyone involved!

And we start today with a very happy Miku. Keeping her foot in the door for potential subsequent sleepovers. Miku knew exactly what she was doing going over there so early in the morning. And mom saw right through her like saran wrap. But all the saran wrap in the world couldn't contain the overwhelming sweetness... Cue the Metal Gear Solid alert sound effect when he woke up as she was mustering up the courage to wake him herself. And here's the ever lovable Nacchan sporting that fashionable rain poncho and classic japanese umbrella combo. Caught Miku looking at him through the rows of people like that one scene out of IRobot. Ahh the StuCoPrez, not as interesting as the main pair, but a character I've been eager to see in animated form as well. Why does she know? You two are just way less subtle than you think you are. The fact that the Prez would write a macro economics report worth of a report about their lack thereof of it on the other hand... There she is, there she is. There's the blushing face of the Prez who turns out is the adorable star of her own childhood friend romcom. Huh, Miku and Yukiya's Love Game never involved punching... Prez definitely needs to work on that. But witnessing all that, now the two of them know how Yukiya's sister feeling watching the two of them. Well, Ganbare Kazane-chan. And try thinking of like cute kittens and stuff when you try to smile.

This episode had some really rough scenes animation wise. It reminded me of the first episode which also had some afwul 3D. I really liked the president, she seems like a fun character. I hope she appears more often. The show could use some side characters to spice things up for the MCs. Im hoping that Yukiya and Miku get together at some point this season (although I guess that would defeat the purpose of the story)

Considering how highly rated the manga is even if it's not very popular, we might get a second season. If we do, I really hope they get another studio involved, or that they assemble a new team. As an anime only, the story is really good so far and the couple is very wholesome, funny and cute. The animation has been the achilles heel of this show. It could have done so much better if it was given proper care.

It's funny how Wakana has nothing to say in the preview. She's seen & heard things too long that she's suffered more than her mom. Kazane popping out of nowhere was hilarious. I guess she's gonna be an apprentice mostly to Miku. So Kazane will play a modified Love Game since Yukiya & Miku can never admit it for years. Kazane & Kakeru will go basic & admit the small things. Kakeru's such a green flag for being strong & patient to tank her tsundere punches. He's not even a masochist. Kazane's been stalking Miku & Yukiya for a long time. I didn't notice Kazane in the background when Miku went to Natsuki. We're gonna get more of Kazane & Kakeru since Kazane is practicing her smile & I love it. I'm like Yukiya that I sleep w/o pants. Yukiya being in his underwear might be an error or his shorts were lowered.

Lol his parents also want them to get together. And so she's leaving all that at his place. Lol his mum suggested going to wake him up. Indeed there is. Lol it's too sweet for her. Lol he woke up before he could wake her up. And lol they were so loud they could be heard downstairs. And so they're sharing an umbrella. So much for that... Lol. Of course they're looking at each other... Boof! Of course someone sees them like that... Ok... Lol and now they've seen that... And so now she's doing it with the guy she likes too.

Sigh here we go the tsundere who annoyingly punches her childhood friend ugh come on Japan there are better ways to do abuse and still be wholesome and funny, headlocks and wrestling moves is the better choice , you get skinship and can go ecchi if you really want to in the specific genre sigh they never learn and it just annoys me so much The rest of the episode was still cute, but i do wish Miku was more assertive
