Half his body weight is an extreme exaggeration. The abs thing is definitely dubious but the weight drop isn't too crazy for a guy going through puberty. Puberty came a bit late for me, I was always a sort of chunky middle-schooler despite hockey, soccer, gymnastics, martial arts and fencing. Pretty much the second puberty hit, all excess weight disappeared and I just naturally got the muscle I should have had for my activity level without any extra effort beyond what I was already doing. I am talking like a good 50 lbs in a matter of several weeks over the summer between freshman and sophomore school years. Which was 3 months max. Sure, a difference from one month, but he had just graduated middle school and lost the weight before starting high school so I am inclined to give it the benefit of the doubt that it could have been longer than just one month.

I was half-asleep when I replied, so I probably shouldn’t have put “only”. However, I can’t help but notice that none of you grass-untouchers seem to have this energy for the other regression/regression Isekai anime out there. Where’s the vitriol for Ascendance of a Bookworm ? Aristocrat Appraisal ? Territory Defense ? The first one has a grown man engaged to a minor who happens to be a reincarnator while the other two have reincarnated protagonists who are engaged to girls/women their own physical age. Don’t see any anger in those directions. Also, why stop at these examples? Why not go for murderers and war crimes? Where’s the hate for Vegeta and Catra? Abusers to lovers? Aisaka and Gajeel. Just being weird and ugly? Mobuo. TL;DR It’s fiction, and we pick and choose what we will accept, tolerate, ignore, or hate. Stay out my inbox with your fictional soapbox nonsense.

I havent read through the LN/manga of ascendance of a bookworm, but there has been no romance yet in the anime. Aristocrat appraisal and territory defense are both extremely creepy and it has been commented on extensively as to how these adults are put.into kids bodies and then immediately want to date other kids, it is extremely unsettling, and isnt something you should suspend imagination for because "it is an anime" just because Japanese society treats f'ed up shit so normally sometimes.

I mean, okay, one month does sound like a stretch but at the same time I remember how easily I lost 7 kg in a short amount of time during middle school. Just played football almost every day without any special goal in mind, after months of being "shut-in" Even as an adult, I gained some weight while working from home and it took me like 3 months of simply being active once I went back to office, to be 'normal' again. Plus, I don't think it was just exercise. Maybe he was obese due to eating too much. He most likely stopped eating like a pig and started working out, it's really enough

i really really doubt it was just because of that, because those type of person are often the best type of person which holds the group together, he probably got deprossed due to rejections on various steps in his life which led him to a very sad / non engaging / rude behavious that he probably developed in his past Because his funny guy self as shwon in flashback is totally opposite of his current future self that is sad and unsocializing

Close enough, welcome back Relife! Haibara immediately going to lose weight right after regressing is such a relatable fantasy, making use of those puberty gains for cheat levels of growth. Though I'm not sure if that progress is realistic, but hey its a fantasy after all. While Haibara clearly has some trauma from the first run and is obviously making use of his adult maturity and experiences to better socialise with others, that flashback of his 1st run introduction was extremely cringe to watch unfold.

Idk this just felt...hollow ? I've seen the trope a lot of times and i just didn't feel like this guy in particular would be interesting in any way. Okay man you went back in time and you just doing the generic class rep routine. If the secondary characters are supposed to be the source of entertainment here or the inner monologues that we will not have in non-book format, then i think this is just not for me

With any time travel thing you also have to ask how exactly time travel works. Do the changes you make replace the current timeline (which makes you a mass murderer for erasing the current versions of people to replace them with the new version), or does it spin off a new timeline at the point of change, leaving the old one alone (in which case what happens to you in the timeline you're leaving - do your loved ones just find your corpse or braindead body)?

There is no way time travel changes events in the way you list in your first hypothesis Well listen to you, all knowing about how Time Travel works in real life, LOL. And even if it were like that, the person couldn't be considered responsible for the butterfly effect of crazy ass changes that would ensue as no one can possibly predict how things would change That's the thing, you know there will be unpredictable butterfly effect of crazy ass changes, but the person still chose to change the past, which makes them very much responsible. And it's not even just about those unpredictable changes. What about the people who personally know the time traveler? All their experiences with him are rewritten from the point at which the timetraveler starts acting differently. And people's experiences are a large part of what makes them what they are. Have you seen Steins;Gate? The very fact that Kurisu was able to halve a calm conversation with the guy who told her "I'm about to change things and this whole heart-to-heart we're having will have never happened" is highly unrealistic to me. How would you feel being on the receiving end of that conversation? Now imagine that it's decades of your experiences that are about to be rewritten instead of just a few days, and you'll never even know it happened unless the time traveler is kind enough to let you know.

The cringe I got from this episode is just, Wow The monologue of future mc really did not set the proper tone of what was about to happen. Like, you're a graduating college student why are you acting like a high schooler (with some knowledge of the future). I get the feeling of getting shy of being close with your crush but to the point of being awkward? Despite that tho, the way I smiled so wide in the group chat scene is just so damn hilarious I will tune in every week. Unless some drama plot comes up, which I'll immediately lose interest

In Hikari's defense, with the way his past self blurted out the confession and how he described his high school life, it's entirely possible he's never so much as spoken to her at all in high school, and only saw her as a pretty face and got a huge crush. What would you do if you suddenly got confessed to by an ugly fat girl you basically don't even know? At least his skinny self is making an effort to be friends first.

I wouldnt say looks are irrelevant but considering how FAST the girl liked the MC like a full on blush on a small compliment which sounds cheesy irl even without knowing him that much is a bit off putting to me. +I did have a girl who liked me. she isnt fat just that I wasnt interested in her but she was nice so i introduced her instead to my friend group which in the end we became friends. She couldve atleast became friends with MC but MC was a complete loner. Its like you suddenly get rich and all of a sudden all these people who ignored you when you have nothing suddenly fawns over you. I just dont like how fast the romance progresses which makes it look extremely shallow

One of the most plain and sloppy "life re-do" anime I've watched. So we have the main character, who goes back in the past (not sure how far), and gets fit in ONE month (sure). But his entire goal in being in the past is getting with a first year high schooler... really? None of the other characters are anything interesting either. They all lack in any personality. In one episode with a supporting cast of 5/6 characters, somehow the first episode fails to make a single one of them interesting. Is this supposed to be rental girlfriend where everyone is just simping for Hikari? Hell, her best friend did literally nothing but introduce herself as "Hikari's Best Friend". Not a single thing about herself! The only good thing is that his personality isn't a sudden 180. He's still portrayed as awkward with realistic, lasting self-image problems, even after getting fit. We don't see him lead any conversations and rather still just rides the coattails of other people's socializing. He second guesses the things he does say based on his low self-esteem. I was really hoping for a twist "Hikari has also gone back in her life!" at the end to redeem it, but nope.

I assume Haibara blacked out and fell off his balcony from early onset lung cancer and pavement-sama stood in for truck-kun. I can certainly understand wanting to lose weight if you get a second chance at things like this, but that seemed like a bit much for only one month of work. Having some of the new friends be the same ones that he knew before and who treated him badly is a thing for sure. I guess we may see why they treated him badly since otherwise why befriend people who you know are awful. Childhood friend who is already out of the prospective harem is pretty fun so far.

Well, just as we have our usual generic isekai, I guess this is our generic romcom for this season. At least from what I’m seeing in this first ep. Definitely has strong wish fulfilment elements. Losing that much weight in a month is certainly a fantasy lol. And being able to redo your social life too. Kinda like ReLife but I found the dialogue and interactions a bit more cringey. But honestly it’s still watchable for me so I’m gonna stay tuned.

This is such a simple and relatable concept because many people want to relive their adolescence to fix things they regret! I love how MC’s all about bettering himself at that point in life now. The only thing I’m iffy about are those friends. I just hope the reason they didn’t like him in his first life is for some reason than because he was fat. Because if they just were mean to him because of that when he made an attempt to fit in, they aren’t really good people and don’t deserve him at his best.

So his being unsocial and awkward was exactly what I was thinking at first too! But then I’m looking at the episode again. I’m not a manga reader, but just based on the episode, it seems like they actually made him social and outgoing in his first life. Like, when he introduced himself to the class, he definitely made an attempt to be outgoing. Now it definitely seemed awkward, but it seems like it was just awkward because he was fat. And like you said, because it’s Japan, his weight is probably the dominating factor. Idk, there might be more to the story, but I’d at least rather see him be friends with someone who did treat him well in his first life

Guy must have been on one hell of a diet and exercise regimen to lose all that weight in a single month lol. Seems to have really paid off. He’s got himself a group of friends and his crush seems to have a little crush on him. And it’s only been what? A week or something? This wasn’t half bad. Premise of this one reminded me of that series Remake Our Life. Let’s see if it’s really gonna be all smooth sailing from here on out.

Considering how popular he already gotten and the urges that are there, not dating for like 3-4 years is a realistic struggle to do on purpose (unlike before when he didn’t have the confidence/luck/skill with women in his first go round). Also, as a high schooler now, I don’t think he can bring a high school girl to do adult stuff at their age (drinking, drugs, clubs) without getting himself in trouble, so I don’t think we need to worry about manipulation. It’s not a situation where he’ll turn back to 25 at that time period while everyone else stays at their ages, they are all going to age with him. Overall, this situation is not something of his (intentional) control, and he just now got sent back at a time period where he has redo his high school life again and has a chance to do it differently than before as he has hoped (a realistic thought that I’m sure a lot of adults think about).

But what’s the wrong here? That a high schooler is dating another high schooler (but one of them came from the future, even though his current body, birth certificate, living circumstances, are all that of a high schooler)? We all know he wouldn’t date a high schooler if he was in his college age like in the beginning, and he can’t go after college/adult women at his physical high school age, so what’s the danger here? He can’t make them go drinking, drugs, clubs if he can’t do it himself. He can’t introduce them to shady adults since they have never met at his age. He can’t take them to his private house since he only lives with his mom and sister and doesn’t have a car yet. It’s not a case of pedophilia where he would date a high schooler because he wants to even if he was (physically) an adult. He’s only doing it because in the new timeline he is in, it’s the only acceptable outcome in this circumstances.

Because you are acting like this a 1:1 to pedophile/groomer incident, when it really isn’t!! We know he would never even think about dating high school girls if he was in his adult stage like in the beginning, but his physical age/body/circumstances/years sent him back to High-School (meaning he can’t date college/adult women because it would get them in trouble as a pedophile/groomer even if their minds do match in age). Mind only matters if the power of manipulation/exploitation is possible, but it can’t be in his because his High-school body,presences/lifestyle prevents him from even thinking about it. This is not a situation where he can magically switch being an adult and a high schooler, and is praying on high-schooler when he really is an adult and can be turned back into one. He’s someone getting a real do-over to no intentional fault of his own, and is physically stuck as a high schooler until his body ages to an adult (where everyone else like those he’ll be dating, will age with him). Like to see how something like this would apply with real-life laws: Yeah officer, Can you arrest this high-schooler for dating another high schooler because he is actually an older guy living inside as a high-schooler?! But whatever, if you and anyone really wants to put a bad stamp on a show like this, that’s all on you, so I would advise not watching and leave it to folks like me who can watch this without trying to put random negative thoughts unless it’s for actual thorough reasons.

He’s someone who got a real do-over to no intentional fault of his own, and is physically stuck as a high schooler until his body ages to an adult (where everyone else like those he’ll be dating, will age with him). He’s at a state where legally, high schoolers are his only options in dating because he can’t legally date adult women until he ages to becoming an adult man. But again, if this your view of this situation, then I would not recommend watching this series.
