I'm sorry Kyouichirou, I know the first half of the episode is all about how you've always been there to protect the family and how you're willing to sacrifice yourself for them, but my god, Momo just stole the entire episode the moment he showed up. Momo really thought the kids were gonna be happy when he finally unveils his plan of reviving his wife , only for them to look at him with fear and disgust. And when Momo finally breaks down when he realizes his kids have rejected him was so good! Seeing Momo claw at his face and ranting like a lunatic was so goddamn terrifying! I really hope we get a Season 3 announcement or maybe at least a second cour because there's no way they're ending it here.

The fact that Momo can overpower all of his children combined speaks to how powerful he is. That's one hell of a cliffhanger to leave us on. I'm a bit disappointed that this season is less than half the length of Season 1 (12 episodes vs 27 episodes). Hopefully Season 3 will come soon. EDIT: Ok, so it's actually a split cour and cour 2 is set to air this October. I'm glad we don't have to wait long.

Kyoichiro nii-san is saved. Thanks to Taiyo. Dad's love is sick. Momo scratching his face until it bled was horrifying to watch. He's trying to repent for what he did to his wife but he had already sacrificed numerous lives to bring her back and he put his kids through all kinds of suffering. Should have just stayed with his family and looked after them. We didn't get 27 episodes like season 1 but I'm glad that we got the announcement on Cour 2 for October.

Great episode overall, but not the top notch one I was expecting visually. It's weird because there are individual cuts and sequences that are gorgeous. The Momo self-harm scene is the best animated scene in the entire series imo. Like- seriously, phenomenal. I expected more of that energy to go into the Taiyo vs. Kyoichiro fight and I could tell that the staff really wanted to (most of it looked great), but at the same time the fight felt abrupt in someways. I wanted a bit more, so I understand those who felt it was anti-climatic despite the beautiful narrative weight of Taiyo reaching out to protect his family member who you'd never expect to need it. The extended fight against Momo sort of makes up for that though, and the end of the episode just builds so much excitement for what's to come. Maybe production issues are part of the reason why S2 is so suddenly being a split cour situation (the other reason is You And I Are Polar Opposites Part 2 airing in it's time slot). Hopefully the 3 month gap is enough time to allow the staff to give it their all each episode.

The moment Taiyou realized he can heal Kyouichirou, there was no way he was going to give up. Kyouichirou was weakened and Taiyou was more motivated, Kyouichirou should have just accepted it lol. It was nice to see Taiyou hugging Kyouichirou to save him, it's not often we'll see a scene like this for the two of them, it might even be the only time.  Momo was so damn unsettling though, that was crazy. Their father really is going to be the last boss it seems. It even seems like he might even have a split personality or something, so I do wonder if we'll see him being erratic the next time they meet.  It's nice a second cour was announced for October.

It's the Yozakura family vs Kyoichiro! They can throw everything they have at him, but he's going to turn it into a moment of showing them how no matter what he's their hyper-competent big brother who they can't touch: even if it means that he has to sacrifice himself to protect them. But family doesn't give up on family, not even if it means Taiyo has to fight through Kyoichiro's threads once more to be able to reach him...with the power of the Profuse Blooming of 10,000 Flowers! Which isn't just for show, it can actually negate the poison! Even if Kyoichiro felt he had to sacrifice himself for the sake of ending the hostile intentions directed towards the Yozakura's, to save his family, Taiyo's not going to give up until he's saved him! Honestly, Kyoichiro earned that slap from Futaba for putting them through this. He rejected the family bond that defines the Yozakura's and he upset Mutsumi, and those are grave offenses. So obviously the best punishment is to basically make him every siblings' plaything! Maybe if he survives that Mutsumi will forgive him. Maybe. But even with Kyoichiro saved, there's still Momo to deal with. Momo who was never truly working for Tsubomi, merely using her, Kawashita, and everyone else around him to facilitate his plan: to revive Rei and reunite with his family. Dudes' even got the LITERAL BEATING HEART OF HIS WIFE IN A JAR. No matter how many people he has to sacrifice, no matter how many innocents his idea of a happy family needs to be built on, he'll do it. Obviously Mutsumi seeing how unhinged and insane her father is, how far he's willing to go, upsets her...but at least she's got Taiyo, just like Rei had Momo, even if that love has now driven him mad and unable to grasp reality or the fact that he's basically dead to his kids now. Even if he's still torn emotionally between wanting to fight them and wanting to protect them. Even if he's tearing his own face apart because he can't deal with all this. It's absolutely unsettling. If Momo thought he could just disappear without the family trying to stop him...not that they do much good against him. Futaba gets her arm broken and not even a Taiyo/Kyoichiro combo can do much good. This won't be the last battle between Taiyo, the family, and Momo, especially now that they know their main mission is to stop him! Operation: Defeat Momo Yozakura!

The sheer audacity from Momo here is insane. It'd be one thing if he disappeared on his family, and it's another that he started killing innocent people for the sake of a supposed greater good. Both are already grounds for them never wanting to see him again already, and it's only made worse that the thing that started all that was him willing to sacrifice his wife and daughter, one of them successfully. And after all of that he thinks he can just express his guilt, apologize, and things can go back to the way they are All that said though...man am I all in on him as a villain now. That warped sense of love and selfishness is really compelling, and it's made better by him clearly being a messed in the head lunatic (if those other things didn't already make him one). Both the voice acting and imagery on the face scratching part was incredibly well done I've got feeling about the next cour later this year, after that cliffhanger I feel like it'll be the strongest point of the story so far

I'm still really enjoying this show but I can help but miss the more focused, extended arcs like the previous season had. The entire thing with the past Yozakura heads and especially Kyoichiro going missing feels like it should have been something at least half of the length of the Tanpopo arc, but it just rushed through it to the point where it felt like it wasn't much of a challenge for the cast? A single episode each for two past heads where they go to a location and immediately defeat them, and then the rest get no-diffed by Kyoichiro, who then disappears, but the very next episode they already find him again. Was the manga not doing well at the time these chapters were written? Because it really felt like the author wanted to rush through these plot points, which is a shame. I hope the next cour starts having some longer arcs again, if only so the challenges the characters face actually feel difficult instead of being solved so fast.

The animation this season isn't as good as last season's. Some episodes seem out of place and random; you could skip episodes, and nothing would change. The emphasis on family, even though it's in the title, is cliché. I wanted more Taiyo and Mitsumi, for their relationship to deepen, but barely got any of that here. Also, it's getting annoying to the point where Taiyo is just being handed stuff, curing Kyouchiro, his new powers, that stuff. Last season left me wanting more; this season, not so much. Hopefully, Cour 2 will be better and prove me wrong about this season.

The animation this season is consistently better than last. There's only one episode that doesn't build the plot. The emphasis on family is the entire theme of the series, so labeling it cliché is definitely a you problem. Taiyo and Mutsumi's relationship is contingent on their dynamic as a wider family. Their relationship as a couple is rarely going to be the focus. Taiyo's new powers are the direct result of the battle from last season. You're better off just dropping the series because it's clearly not for you.
