Honestly feels like that's the only way for their relationship to go at this point.
They're practically living together as a couple, they've been together and basically dating for a while now, they're finally kissing and holding each other on the regular, and it's clear there's a strong, brewing, physical desire between them (especially on Mahiru's part).
Sex isn't rushing anything between them, sex is basically just the natural progression of where they are now as a couple.

It's interesting to see the strong focus on intimacy and the boundaries around it for a couple in anime, I can't think of one off the top my head that has so much talk about their desires, how fast or slow they should go, the self-control and patience, and of course the actual moment it happens.
You would think by now they would have had sex, but Amane understands that Mahiru isn't ready and she even says that in this episode, but Mahiru clearly wants to explore further. It is a little amusing how Amane is having a hard time navigating his own desires as they slowly take their relationship further. Not to mention how Mahiru can't even look at Amane topless, so that's how far away we are lol.
I wonder if we'll be getting some focus on Itsuki next episode, I feel like the man in the preview has to be his father? We already know what Amane and Mahiru's fathers look like.

i think this show suffers from the tonikawa effect. characters are too cute and affectionate towards one another that the writers don’t know how to actually progress the relationship.

Chitose is definitely corrupting the angel into a devil lol. The last 5 minutes of the episode were Mahriu essentially saying "I'm so horny and sexually frustrated. Can we please have sex already?" in her own wholesome Marhiru way while Amane is like "How about just a hug and some kisses?" I think the cute wholesomeness might be starting to work against the series now.
