The back and forth interaction between mama cat and devil cat is simply the best, most accurate depiction of how mothers and sons normally talk to one another I've seen in a long time (anime-wise). Just the perfect blend of respectful banter and meddlesome annoyance lol The detours mama cat took on her way to a tearful reunion made me think it might not even happen this episode. I thought it was gonna be more emotional, but both uncle dragon and mama cat were rather casual about it all. I guess it was truly enough for mama cat to just see her son thriving and I loved it how the moment she saw him, despite her doubts (saving herself from disappointment) in the beginning, she knew right away and even held back the tears from her eyes.

I think the reunion scene was intimated to be "intimate" and adding reactionary shots of bystanders probably would have ruined that intimacy. Also, cats do nose to nose and lick other cats' faces all the time as a form of greeting or welcome home/back within the same community/liter. So while the gesture may be poignant to us viewers, it's nothing particularly special to every cat that was there (as I assume they've done licked uncle's face when he's in cat form plenty of times off screen lol)

The entire ep I was worried they were gonna pull that classic BS where mom sees him first at a distance, but then decides not to bother him. Really glad that didn't happen. Hoping that Mama-nyan is gonna "persuade" him to allow demon cat to set a portal in the forest and she's gonna pop in to pester him from time to time. Also, a little confused on how much time has passed. Neko-ryu surviving through many generations of cats is one thing, but hasn't he also been around for multiple generations of kings? Are we jumping back and forth in time? Or are Mama-nyan and her human WAAAAAAAY older than I thought? When she was imagining that it was another dragon and not her kid.....why did she imagine a mangy dirty thing? Seems kinda rude.

They mentioned her lifespan now being much longer the moment she grew her 2nd tail. I think the main confusion here is because the lifespan of the cats hasn't really been clear so far, and people made some conclusions based on the king and his cat in episode 4. But I think most of those have just been wrong, and the cats probably live pretty similar lifespans as in real life. This means that probably somewhere around 40 years have passed thus far. Though I will say that the summoner girl is a bit confusing in that regard, as that would make her about 50 years old, which she certainly doesn't look like. Could be that she ages slower due to her magic though, as the human king certainly doesn't seem to have aged slower in contrast.

S627 above has a point. For a moment, I thought the story was covering different points in time every time. However, that's not possible. Moshamosha IV is already there while the mama-nyan is with her human friend who seems to be no more than 20 or 30 years old. The times don't match unless the Moshamoshas and kings aren't living more than 5-7 or so years each, which is obviously not the case. The only possible explanation is that Mama-Nyan's master, the blond girl/teacher, is actually several hundred years old even if she doesn't look like so. Otherwise, times don't match.

The only definite time reference we have is that Kurobane went to evaluate Stan shortly after he was born, and doesn't seem notably older 12 years later when the future Hero King leaves home. Note that the 4 Moshamosha generations (a time reference of sorts, although we don't know when Moshamosha I began cultivating foxtails) aren't consecutive from beginning to end, since each successor undergoes a lengthy apprenticeship before succeeding their master. So those four generations may only amount to two full lifetimes. So it could be 2-300 years, but it doesn't have to be.

Y'know, I've always soft-assumed that for whatever reason (that I don't think was backed up by anything other than just my imagination), when Mama-nyan got summoned as a familiar to the girl, it also was a time skip of sorts. Like, she got summoned possibly 10 or even more years into the future. So I never thought they would show her reunite with her children. Ig that's why I didn't find the timeline as strange.

That actually would fit as well. If she was summoned a hundred years or more into the future, it would make sense. But if that's the case, the demon would at least have told her abut it, no? When he met mama-nyan in the school, he spoke he went to the forest to look for her, and it even showed a short 1-2 seconds image of his memory of the dragon, which wasn't fully grown at all. It didn't seem like he was talking about something that happened a long time ago.

To put it in simple words, the lifespan of the creatures (human included) in that world seems affected by how much magic capacity they have. Creatures with low magical power live for a relatively regular amount of time. Cait Sith are Cat-like monsters (not just regular cat) as they have a magical organ and can use their tail as a magical catalyst (hence also why they were hunted as their pelt is also magically conductive to craft armor... that is until the Cat Dragon put a stop to it). Cait Sith who don't use their spells and live like regular cats live will live for a similar amount of years as regular cats while Cait Sith which uses their magic often and grow their magical capacity will live for far longer. The same applies to humans by the way from what we have seen. Mama-nyan's master/summoner has grew her magical capacity (due to the herculean training from Mama-nyan) so high, she's basically an arch mage by that point (as a teacher) and her lifespan might have been extended, hence why she look "younger" then her actual age (which should be around mid-50 by now). Even though she look younger, we might take note that it might only be something we see. It's subtle, but you can see that she's acting like her age as she seem to prefer to sit and don't stand up even in front of her students. (In case you didn't knew, especially since this is a story designed from a Japanese perspective, teacher in Japan are expected to greet and work standing most of the time unless they are actually working at a desk. A young teacher who greet her students from a sitting position out in the open may be considered lazy and disrespectful.)

The current king must be either the same one as in E1, or is the prince from E1. (Either way, he should be used to princes who have unusually close relationships with cats.) We were told in E2 that Mama-nyan's habit of eating the magic stones from the carbuncle mice near the school resulted in her second tail and also an extended lifespan. As far as the dragon goes, she's aware she has lived multiples of a normal cat's lifespan, but probably has no idea how long-lived dragons are and didn't realize Winged Uncle was still young as dragons go. So she figured he'd have died of old age just like a normal cat, of which we know there have been at least 4 generations since she left, counting by the number of Moshamosha. (Which seems like too long, but their lifespans obviously overlap during the apprenticeship of the next generation. Taking a new name as the successor to a traditional position is pretty normal in Japan, and the most prestigious do get numbers like that, as with the top sumo referees or kabuki actors.) I wonder if Kurotama has a human lifespan while in human form?

I do have my take on this, I think the current King is the son of the Prince from E1 and it's a possibility we see that Prince's siblings in the closing scene of Episode 1. So, I do think Anna Rossa is probably way past 100 if mana is connected to aging. I did hope it was either Anna Rossa's Daughter she was with, which honestly makes sense but it is Anna Rossa. Genuinely it is confusing, idk about the Manga though if where in the timeline we are is just as confusing

Hopefully it'll be much clearer once the show ends, but to me it definitely feels like we're jumping a bit back and forth in time. An interesting (read: stupid) explanation could be that the summoning of a familiar transcends time. When mama-nyan gets summoned, she is summoned into the future. That is the only way I could say that the episodes are made in chronological order (and would also explain why Mama-nyan thought her dragon son would be dead and replaced by another rusty dragon, maybe she knows just how far into the future she got transported?). But really, the episodes have sometimes been so episodic and portrayed as small stories on their own with their own timespan that I really think there's no chronological order at all and that the focus on the stories are not about "when" in time the episodes are taking place, it's rather about the message and feelings conveyed. Like just the last episode about Moshamosha started with the first generation and then we time leaped to the fourth generation. So it's really hard to tell the time without the characters themselves mentioning it in actual years. Maybe and hopefully we'll get some more info next episode about just how old they are.

Best episode so far. Being reunited with your mother will always bring that inner kid back to you. It's really cool to see how the forest has changed since Mama Cat has left. Best episode so far. It will be interesting to see where they stand now since going on their adventure.

It seems that even as cats, parents will try to barge into your room when you're doing something important. Demon-sensei and Mama-nyan's interactions are so goddamn funny. 😆 It's also funny how Mama-nyan still can't believe that the dragon in the forest is the same dragon she raised. Whenever she thinks of Winged Uncle, she still thinks of the scared little dragon back then. I legit full-on cried when Mama-nyan and Winged Uncle finally reunited. I've been hoping to see this ever since we learned what happened to Mama-Nyan back in Episode 2, and it's just as heartfelt and hilarious as I was hoping it would be. I can't believe this anime has made me cry twice now. I love it so much! I do hope that Mama-nyan sticks around for a bit. The next episode seems to be about the black cat and the feral prince, but I'm hoping the episode after that will be about Mama-nyan's holiday at the Forest for Beginners.

honestly considering how wild small cats tend to live for about 5 years on average, more if theyre lucky or domesticated sometimes up to 10 years the fact that theres been 4 generations of moshamosha, and the fact that mr wing (dragon) was an adult when the first moshamosha created moshamosha square. the time between mamma cat being summoned to when she returns to mr wing is most likely around 20 or so years, possibly more or less but around there, we're looking at 15 years minimum (edit: to add to this, the wizard girl was an elementary schooler when she summoned mamma cat, so most likely shes around her early 30's currently mid 30's at most and wouldnt be surprising if she was even just in her late 20's)

If anything, having any creature take too long to reach adulthood, like decades, is nonsense if you live in a world with predators. Some stories like depicting elves as taking decades to reach adulthood, which makes no sense. A disease or an invasion at the hands of another sapient species could easily drive you to extinction, that's terrible evolution. Dragons and elves should reach maturity fairly quickly and then slow down. The dragon taking 10 years or so to reach adulthood is good enough.

Yeah this absolutely confused the hell out of me. I distinctly remember that there have been several kings with their corresponding caith sithe already since the Cat-dragon made the pact with that kingdom in episode 1, yet somehow the wizardess who summoned Mama-cat is still very much alive and still looks fairly young. Was she perhaps summoned into the future? That is pretty much the only thing that would make sense here.

1, Anne Rossa's age and appearance is as it looks and the summoning magic sent Mama-nyan into the future. 2, Anne Rossa's lifespan and appearance is much longer and younger due to magic. 3, White cat in the episode 4, Kurobane, and Kurotama a.k.a. adventurer cat who is one of the group defeated the demon king. It's okay as long as you just imagine that cat toys and foxtails are same word in the Japanese. It is just a nitpicking, "Stray cats" is a general word, but in the original sentence it was a kind of coined word. like "wonderer + cat".
