Part of the dark humor is that he most likely could have gotten their queen to at least support his runecraft promotion, if not want to join him, except she ended up getting brutally killed and Ainz's pitch derailed and forced to spend weeks away from Nazarick because he wasn't more honest with Demiurge who was in a giant hurry to impress Ainz after the latter supposedly annexed The Baharuth Empire in just three days.

Slime twink didn't kill millions just to start his own kingdomso it's kind of understandable at that point but everything else is pretty much similar both are peaceful-ish countries they accept almost all races and they have good resources to trade with other countries or kingdoms

Slime have a ton of advantage he is sociable and not paranoid. He is able to transform his appearance due to dragon mana and a cheat skill that gives him ability to know everything.
He even meet an influential figure quiet early like a dwarf king.
Compare to Ainz, he seen a village getting attacked. Sure he met an influential figure like Gazef but that dude looks like a regular soldier and not influential at all. Also Gazef didn't seek Ainz to give him some reward or build connection immediately. It just show Gazef is an idiot or the kingdom is already failing.
Overlord story could change if Gazef show some gratitude and build connection to Ainz.

The kingdom was already falling at the time they had a lot of conspirators of the empire in court. Even with Gazaf title he still is considered a commoner in court and can't really make a request for a reward for Ainz.

Showing Ainz had a ton of disadvantage compare to slime. Still if Gazef build connection to Ainz he could give Ainz some decent knowledge regarding New World.
Gazef knows Ainz is a powerful sorcerer in the setting sorcerer are highly sought after sure the nobles had some extreme bias, he could still recommend Ainz to the king. Also this is not the 1st time Gazef disobey his king rushing to save some village.
Gazef didn't value Ainz enough to build a connection immediately.
When Ainz got transported in New Word he had zero information. That force him to rely with his spies who have strong opinion about humanity being inferior species to them. Also he pretended to be an adventurer during his adventures he just view New World could threaten his precious NPC.
Two characters have different abilities just the slime is just a cheat from the beginning of his story.

The "grimdarkness" is still there but said grimdarkness isn't self-aware (it's Rimuru lol)...although it's all just the perception of one from the others regardless. Rimuru created a massive country through protection, diplomacy, and helping other countries and them naturally deciding to join his, only resorting to violence when absolutely nessecary such as an army of unstoppable orcs or a kingdom that wants nothing more to wipe them out. Even prisoners there are treated with dignity and allowed to reform instead of being put in the eternal torture rape breeding camps for shits and giggles.

hardly fair since Rimuru gets a whole council of demon lords, a primordial dragon, and primordial demon (all natives) who know whats going on with the world to learn from. Ainz gets a backwater village (which he saves btw) and a bunch of secretive shadow governments to deal with so his crew have to discover everything on their own.
like if Rimuru got dropped into Overlord or “So I’m a Spider, So What?” or even Arifureta (or any of the other harsher isekais), he’d be 100% dead
