Tbh I think he lucked out. Use the giraffe body like a harness to lift yourself up and down, which will let you do more high-flying attacks, and if anyone tries to attack the giraffe body you just trample em!

I gotta be honest. I never understood why Kaido was so obsessed with having so many devil fruit users on his crew. I think it was said his dream was to do this, but Rocks never had a DF and Kaido admired him.
Always felt that Oda brought this up, and never went anywhere with it.

I assumed it had something to do with his rivalry with Big Mom, whom was also obsessed with having many devil fruit users.
Kind of similar to how so many different crews were obsessed with getting the Giants to be their allies. Rocks wanted it, Big Mom wanted it, Imu wanted it, Luffy wants it.

I would definitely say Kaidou was inspired by Rocks' power to gather his crew, but his connection to Big Mom was much more informing of who he eventually becomes.
Rocks is even looser than Luffy when it comes to "you guys can do what you want." But it doesn't seem like he ever really discussed with them their own ideals and ambitions. Just brought them along with his schemes since he also "won" their status as crewmates due to the Davy Back Fights.
Kaidou stole Big Mom's fruit. It could have been anything. It was like he was specifically trying to get under her skin and unscripted. I actually don't know what specifically motived Kaidou to move on to Wano eventually. I wonder if we will get more information on that one day.

I read it as young Kaido being obsessed with finding a DF that would equal his ambitions. Other Rocks members had extremely powerful DFs and he felt inadequate.

Kaido is obsessed with strength, he was born on the battlefield and has only ever known war. He wants a strong crew to wage war against the world. Zoan devil fruits (even the shitty Ceasar ones) give you the same zoan stat buffs as other zoans in addition to the animal power itself. This means the gifters are automatically stronger than a pleasure, waiter or regular soldier.
His desire had nothing to do with Rocks, it was an extension of himself and what he ultimately wants. Which is to have a great death like Roger and WB did.

I think it was just his way of getting a large “strong” crew very quickly and easily. Haki takes years of training, but having a devil fruit power immediately makes you better than average without any work
Easier to force feed a bunch of people fruits than to have them disciplined enough to train their haki

It's a litle disappointing Oda decided to make the gifters entirely jokes. Especially odd since they didn't really start out that way, sheepshead was kind of strong and could control his powers and they were useful, but after that they were really useless. BM's crew had a lot of kids that seemed strong but with Kaido it was really just the ones at the very top.

I kind of like it. If smiles held powers equivalent to devil fruits then the whole system breaks down. Real devil fruits should always remain the real deal
