I think that the Re: Zero fandom does tend to be less eccentric when compared to other anime fanbases like JJK or CSM to where it should be mostly fine
Tappei would have shit the bed so hard the bed is obliterated for the ending to get notoriety, like deadass pull a "It was all a dream" and just have Subaru wake up having passed out at the convenience store

In general, fandoms for stories originating from web novels are smaller and more niche than fighting shonen anime, so any complaints will likely remain within internal circles. Whether the ending is good or not, fandom activity will probably decrease after the novel concludes, only picking up slightly each time a new anime arc is released.

Re: Zero fan base isn't as hugely prevalent as JJK or CSM so the insanity probably wouldn't reach as far, and it'll take the anime a WHILE to get there.

I also get the impression that the average Re:Zero fan's age range is older, especially considering that there are still several years until the end, so even if the ending were terrible in some way, the reaction would probably be more one of sadness than virulent anger.

The only thing i know about the chainsaw man ending is the memes, I'm memes-man because i only know memes, man.
With that said, I would imagine it would be along the lines of or far worse than how a lot of AOT fans felt about the manga's ending when it first came out. All the bird memes, sniffing letters, 10 years at least, and such. AOT had extremely high expectations and I think so does re:Zero.
Re:zero writing has been lauded for a decade now as genuinely masterclass. So if Re:Zero had a chainsaw man level 'creator stopped giving a damn, phoned it in for final arc and abrupt unsatisfying ending', then i think the fallout would be catastrophic.

Oh CSM had detrated in quality through the last two thirds of part 2 .unlike AOT how had one last bad ark so if re zero countioue to have good writing I don’t think it matter as much really if the ending was bad

If we were to imagine that the ending in question would be alongbthe lines of "Subaru returns to the moment from which he was isekaied, but with all his memories, and rushes back to home to hug his parents"... Unlike Chainsaw man, it would be not that bad.

IMO this is one of the best stories ever written, so anything wrong he does with the story from here on out, I pre-emptively forgive him. I don't care how this story ends. I love what is written so far so much.

the essence of what tappei is trying to convey with this story is so goated AND there's a fuckload of it. really long main story + infinite side stories. it is the epitome of greed to expect it to end well too..
and yet I still fully believe in the GOAT

The only ending bad enough to make me think of Re Zero in disgust is if they go the Re:Forgotten route.
I'll even take the shitty "it was all a dream ending" over a Re:Forgotten route ending.

Self implode probably. But to be honest, it’d have to be a very, VERY big of a mess up. Like, throw all your themes out the window and character assassinate the entire main cast type of bad. Or, in this very specific ReZero case, loop all the way back to the beginning type of bad.

Considering how Return by Death works, I won't be too surprised if it does what CSM does.

That would be a terrible ending, all the buildup for nothing. Even if the characters like, have good memories and healthy outlooks to future, it would still feel like the waking up from a dream ending...
