Been working on these for a while. I had a fun idea of what if Oda released One Piece during the Golden Age of Comics. Decided to do the First Appearance covers for the Strawhats. Since, The Monster Trio (Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji) and The Weak Trio (Nami, Usopp, and Chopper) are complete–and because I had a scare thinking I lost the files for these– I figured I should share this with y’all now.

Fun Trivia: All covers (except Luffy) is based on a real comic book cover (both famous and obscure).

結構長い間これらに取り組んでたんだよね。もし尾田先生が『ワンピース』をアメリカン・コミックの黄金時代に発表してたらどうなってた？って楽しいアイデアが浮かんで。麦わらの一味の「初登場カバー」を作ってみたよ。モンスター三人組（ルフィ、ゾロ、サンジ）と弱っちい三人組（ナミ、ウソップ、チョッパー）が完成したから――あと、データ消えたかと一瞬ビビったからさ――今ここでみんなとシェアしようと思って。

豆知識：ルフィ以外の全カバー、実際のコミック表紙（有名なのもマニアックなのも）を元にしてるんだよね。

Um actually 🤓 these would be modern age comics not golden age.

Nah but for real these look great, love the Wolverine tied up one with zoro.

There really needs to a better naming system for comic ages at this point though, the fact that 90s is considered ‘modern age’ and then there’s nothing after that is wild

This is a fantastic idea and a great execution. I can see the OR IS HE BOTH? panel when Chopper goes monster form for the first time in my head right now!
これアイデアも実行力も神だわ。チョッパーが初めて怪物化した時の「OR IS HE BOTH?」ってコマ、今頭に浮かんだ！

I don’t know, I like the style of manga more almost. That said I was never too big into comics myself before manga/manhwa. Great artwork no doubt just looks off in this style.
うーん、個人的には漫画のスタイルの方が好きかも。まあ自分は漫画/マンファにハマる前はあんまりコミック読まなかったけど。絵は確かに上手いんだけど、このスタイルだとちょっと違和感あるな。
「もしも」のアイデアを形にしたファンアートに、コミック愛好家もマンガファンもそれぞれの視点から反応。スタイルの違いについての議論も生まれつつ、作品そのもののクオリティと発想力は高く評価されている。
